I'm probley gonna get slagged for this......but why do people have there bars leaning forward,especially the burner mob.I own a pro burner/aero what ever the f*ck it is but i would never dream of having the bars pointing forward,when i was a teenager we used to laugh our heads off when we saw a bike with its bars forward...it was always the kids who hads a bmx but didn't know how to ride

yup

the thing is with mk1 burners, is that the sweep on the bars is so dramatic that if you set the bars at a normal angle, it would be like riding a wheelbarrow

as for normal bars leant right forward, it probably down to the reason you listed

i dont know how old you are but 'we had a bars forward bitd because top tubes were shorter and we would bang our knees on the bars 'of course lay backs helped

and top tubes got longer for example my new ripper has a 20.5 tt same as my street bike so my bars are at the same angle as my forks

but bitd the top tubes were alot shorter and i had a burner and they were short frame with all the wrong angles

but i still want one now

the riders were shorter too

not ONE person back in the burner days was hankering for a longer toptube (of our age group)

the burner bars issue was due to the shit bars.

people who are building bikes with the bars right forward and levers mounted horizontally are most likely the people who never really rode a bmx seriously.

Had this converse before.

I used to ride with my bars slightly forward, so the grips were inline with the front axle. Didn't realise why at the time but it must have been the differrent geometries. Couldn't do tricks with the bars back as we ride today. Tried it once when i was younger and done a front flip off of a small ramp. Never rode with my bars back past vertical after that.

Never had them so they were so far forward that you looked like you were riding a racer though!

tipping your bars forward made unskilled endos easier too

they werent bent over forwards either by accident
the stem was done up super tight. nice riding position

that hoopty setup probably saved the frame from cracking as it was obviously ridden by a fence watcher

aside from the grips n seatpostclamp that bike has all of it's original components, as it left the factory in 85

i am even reusing the cables in the rebuild!!!

I'm 39 now and remember the early burners,we had a kid round where i used to live who had a really shite looking burner mk1 he was tall and lanky and could do anything on that thing,i remember him bunnyhopping bins with the bins upright ;D360 spins on the ground and comming off a jump he was unbelievable bitd.BUT he had his bars straight :)i wasn't talking about slightly forward bars i meant bars that are so far forward it reminds me of all the pikey kids having there bars to far forward :Plike someone else said it was the kids that weren't really properly into bmx whether it be racing or freestyling
