Frame identification help appreciated! (Ammaco?)
« on: October 30, 2005, 11:40 PM »
Hello to everyone. First off, i'm new to the forum with my second post here so i apologize if this type of topic already exists. If that's the case feel free to move this to it's correct place.

The unknown frame..

I bought this a good while ago "as is" cause i think the frame has cool appearance and desing plus it's a restorer's "dream" so to speak. The paint has been removed by previous owner and it came with a fork that's obviously from a Mongoose Decade/pro.
I would appreciate some help trying to identify the exact manufacturer and model. The frame feels quite heavy so i doubt it's full 100% cro-mo, maybe cro-mo maintubes or just full hi-ten, i don't know.
My best guess with my limited knowledge about mid-80's frames so far is an Ammaco but i might be completely wrong. Why do i think it's Ammaco? Because the drop outs shape and inside weld technique as well as that tiny support tube between chainstays match to this picture i found in Alan's BMX site: http://www.alans.co.uk/oldschool/ammacoframe.jpg
..well everything else then is pretty much different.  ???
So far i've heard random guesses of Redline, Ammaco and Ruffel Hole Shot but i am really curious to hear what it REALLY is!

I'm planning to have it white powder coated at some point and put all-white parts.
Never mind the eggs & lemons.
Thanks!

Neck out.

Not an Ammaco frame, although I can see some things that may push someone that way.

Mix of a few frames in that.

Welcome to the show mate!!

Thanks ORB and others, i'm sure i will enjoy my stay.  :)

About the frame, there's a serial # underneath bottom bracket which reads: "DS 70473327" if that's any help for ID the frame?
Here's details of drop outs:

..and the framestand extension:

yeh i'd say that the dropouts were cut with the coaster tab in, and they just used the same one for both sides

but looking closely, it looks like the coaster bit was tacked on after?

it reminds me of a late 80's schwinn

Another point, the drop outs are knurled on opposing sides, meaning they are made for each side (left n right)

Its bugging me.

The drop outs are quite close to a Redline RL20 - 11 but it deffo aint that.

The Loop on the seat stay looks like an Ammaco Styler 500

I'm guessing the crank would just miss those chainstays.

Hmmm.. this is getting very interesting!!  :o  Now i am really curious to hear one day what it is.
Here's a detail shot of the headtube/support gusset if it's any help. On the background you can see a cable guide between twin toptubes. Bottom bracket inspection showed that the frame has previously been red and blue though i strongly doubt either one is the original color, i don't know.
