Author Topic: What raleigh frame is this? (Read 9232 times)

Been given a old raleigh burner frame so have posted it on forums to find out what it is and replys are super tuff burner or chromo burner and made in 84. Got some forks off e-bay and they dont fit as the head tube is 4 1/2 inch's long and not 4 inch's like standard frames.
Can anybody tell me why this is and what frame it is?

MK2's were resonably ok just odd angls on the frame.

It was the MK1's that were carved from solid lead.

They weren't ALL Full Cromo.

Lower spec models were Carbo Spec (Hi tensile Steel)
Mid spec models were MT Cromo (Main Tubes Cromo)
High End models were Full Cromo.

MK2 Standard Burner (Steel Rims & Spokes) - Carbo Spec = 14.1kg (31lb)
MK2 Chrome Burner (Steel Rims & Spokes) - MT Cromo = 14.1kg (31lb)
MK2 Ultra Burner (Alloy Rims & Spokes) - FULL CROMO = 12.7kg (28lb)

The Full Cromo Models were 1. Ultra Burner 2.Super Tuff Burner 3. Aero Pro Burner (Tange Frame) 4. Cromo Burner (Koisumi Frame)

I know they get ripped on here (and deep down I understand why...

Is it worth a rebuild?and how much should i spend before i get carryed away.
where is the best place to buy nos parts other than ebay?

ps it was my birthday today so thats 20 years since we all had Burners,pk's,diamond back's & choppers if only i had kept them all. Got a mate who works in a skip yard so i'v told him to put all bmx bikes to one side as when he saw my frame the other day he told me he gets them in all the time but nobody wanted them so they went in with the scrap metal,by then i was feeling sick and told him to keep stories like that to himself.Will keep you posted on any good finds.

I had a Mk1 ST Burner that weighed a ton. I guess it was steel. Where did they change the frame composition on MK1 bikes, please mate?
