Not sure of the year, but it is a bit of a "hybrid" I think. The frame is the later one which used to have the cable loops on, but I think the forks are about 84. Not sure how to read this era frame no's. as they are not the same format as the earlier GT's (ie; the 1st 4 digits are the month and the year)

Hi Ad - I think I'm with Nidge on frame date...87/88...the forks are 85+ (84 forks didn't have the cable guide). Also, the drop outs on the frame are a little strange not having the holes in and the extended seat stay... Pete will probably know if this is normal in the late performers. What is the serial number and where is it positioned?
