Title: Torker Built Haro Pictures
Post by: greentoad on June 15, 2007, 12:01 PM
Hi all

*UPDATE - NOW LIVE*

http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z96/Haro_Registry/

----------------------

I have been working on the Haro list again. It is nearly finished apart from the new additions / finds as and when they arrise.

I have set up a Haro account on photobucket and it will have a section / folder for each bike. In each section there will be all the pictures that I can find - pre restoration, current pictures and also pictures built up by previous owners etc etc.

I think this will be a great information guide, and I'm sure most will agree.

Can you please reply on here with all the pictures that you have of your Torker Built Haro's. These include ones that you may now of sold on / traded etc.

Can you please reply with serial (this is very important) and then all pictures.

Can mods make this a sticky please. - thanks  ;)

Thanks

J.

Mine is TJJ 3483F.

It still needs Chrome  :( But apart from that it is so clean  :)

Picked up a Gen 2 Master today  T08844904M

Picked it up from Jimz360 who was given it by Chris Young. The Chrome on it is good apart from the Dropouts, need some Forks & Decals for it.

Now built  :)

Hi all

Hopefully it should now be live -

http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z96/Haro_Registry/

Just need all the pictures please.

I will update each folder as time allows.

(If you find any broken links, access issues etc - please notify me.)

It will also link it all up with the Haro Registry in time.

Thanks for the pictures, keep them coming.

Hi Dave

Seriously, there are no pictures of your Haro's. I have never known the serials for each bike.

If you could get some pics up (with serial), that would be great - pre-resto too etc please.

My Freesyler the serial is TPP1727F

I bought it second hand in 1984 off a mate.

I then had it sprayed red in about 85 and it ended up like this :-

So I stripped it:-

Then had it rechromed and built it up like so :-

Thanks to all those that have replied so far, either on here, PM or email.

There are now 34 different bikes logged with pictures, with the total number of pictures currently at 349.

http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z96/Haro_Registry/

Just click on the link, the model, then the serial and you can then see the pictures. You can also click on the picture and they open larger.

Currently all 3 Gen 1 F have pictures, 20 Gen 2 F, 2 Gen 1 M, 5 Gen 2 M, all 2 Gen 1 S, all 2 Gen 2 S

There are also quite a few bikes listed that I am sure a lot of people have not scene.

Hope you all enjoy, and lets keep the pictures coming.

I have been meening to do this for a long time.
As I really appreciate this thread ... I had taken photos previously as Iwanted to help ... but due to technical issues I was unable to get them delivered.

Anyway, here is a very dodgy video taken and a picture from very early this morning (its the only time I had spare to get the info) so if I sound like a burk on the video its cause I am half gone :)
If for any reason this video is needed for this thread please down load it as my host automatically deletes files if they havent been accessed for 30 days.

and feel free to publically share my user name with the serial number & info etc ...

Serial number : tvv 821f

thanks

I just wonder what if : tvv 821f means its a january 1983?
After reading the other serial thread I wonder if that would make it a first gen freestyler or a second gen freestyler LOL

either way, it would be interesting to see.
In one sense I would hope it was a first gen (last produced) and on the other hand if it appeared to be a 2nd gen but very first produced it would also be kinda exciting.

fingers crossed

Sweet Pictures TJ, what a clean Freestyler.  :4_17_5:

About Time YGT ;) - I've been wanting to get a look at your ride for years as it will identify the crossover between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

As you know, I have been asking you for pictures for months, so cheers for showing it.

Can you please take a picture of under the gusset.

If I remember correctly, yours is the oldest bike known to exist in the UK (are you in UK?) - (and if a Gen 2 Freestyler is the oldest in the World). Can you also please take a picture of the serial (I have it down as UU not VV).

I would also be very grateful if any of you could send me other information that you have, such as - damage, condition, history, original chrome, original decals, previous owners, where and when purchased, etc etc - plus also some more pictures (including previous condition, back in the day, pre - resto etc etc).

You can send data to - haro@greentoad.co.uk

Thanks

J.

I will answer these questions now while i remeber.
Damage : none really, just used.
Condition : structurly sound with worn chrome finish.
History : no idea ... got it off a bloke on vntagebmx some time ago, I believe a poster from scotland called graem ? may remember.
OG chrome : I believe so
OG decals : not sure, could be as they are rather tatty and peeling up in places.
Year purchased : arround the winter time of 2002 i believe.

I bought the bike from a shop in some small town the Northwest, I can't remember where but just North of Liverpool and no it wasn't Southport Andy! Probably been around 1990 way after the "sell by" date what all the new products on the market. At the time I was in there talking "bikes" with the owner who had it downstairs in the original box, he said no one was interested in it. He knew my background and that I rode for Haro and said he would sell it to me for what he paid for it from Shiner the distributor. I actually left the shop without buying it! Probably a few weeks later it hit me OMFG so I went back and bought it. A few years later I left for America, I had left it in on top of the wardrobe at my mum’s house where it was warm and dry. Away I found out she stuck it in the attic, all I was thinking was this beautiful frame covered in rust now…thankfully it wasn’t so I brought it back to the States with me. I actually was talking with Bob Haro not so long ago about these bikes. Surprisingly he doesn't have any at all, said that after every trip/tour he did he would either sell his bike or give it away as he didn't want to struggle carrying it on a plane!

TJ

Here's my 1982 (TXX) Haro Freestyler that is featured in the book Freestyle Moves.(http://www.jtfreestyle.com/media/picts/Bikes/2007%201982%20Haro%20Freestyler%20Jeff%20Tollefson2_.jpg)
No rechroming but the fork and headtube stickers were replaced.

More can be found out about it, click here! (http://www.jtfreestyle.com/Vintagebikes/1982_BobH_Haro_Freestyler.htm)

Raced Torkers since 1978 and always dabbled in "trick" riding.  When I heard that Torker was making the first ever Freestyle frame and fork I had to order one at our shop.  That year I started my own trick team and have been Freestylin' ever since.

Took me a little coaxing to get Bob out to talk to all at the Rockford Vintage Bike gathering but he had a wonderful time sharing his past and present with us!

Here's the 1983 Haro Freestyler featured on the cover of BMX Plus!

This is my second Freestyler I bought in 1983 and picked one up for my buddy Rick too!  This is all original and was signed by Bob and Ron Wilton in 1983.  This is original except I did replace the headtube and fork stickers though.

Everything is exact and more can be found out by clicking here! (http://www.jtfreestyle.com/Vintagebikes/1983_BobH_Haro_Freestyler.htm)

I spent so much time on my Freestyler!  Of all my bikes it was my favorite of the Haros I rode.  It's been great to first meet Bob in 1981 and after 27 years things are as gnarly as ever!

Please don't rip my head off, but.....

For me, to make a Haro Truly Stunning and to get the real angles and dimensions, they need a Straight Post and atleast 12" out.

You also know that it's true  ;)

Anyone got an 18" Renthal for sale?

J.

Greentoad...good comment re seatpost but my haro is a rider and used daily so I need the xtra room as i aint 4ft anymore.

I agree they look much better with straightposts as do most old skool builds but this was built to get me from a - to - b  :) and wanted it to be shown as

the rider it is.

Please don't laugh, is anyone selling a haro freestyler frame and forks, was offered one from the states but don't know if I can trust sending money to someone I don't know in USA.
Or have you seen one up for grabs?
Thanks in advance

For those of you who are interested, I have been working on updating the list over Christmas and new year and quite a lot has been added. Recently another first gen sport, numerous 2nd generation freestylers and a new gen 1 freestyler

If you click on the link it will get you to the photo bucket account and on the front page should be the most recent updates. If not click on the individual albums to see the pictures. If you dont see your serial or pictures, just drop me a ,ail and ill get them added.

There still seems to be a lack of 2nd generation sports in the list and im certain there are a few more out there. As always, if you have a US Made Haro tha isnt featured, please do get in touch with the following
1) Your serial number
2) Some pictures including one of the serial close up
3) Some history of the bike/frame i.e. is it refinished or original, where did you get it etc. This information goes into the database and isnt shared with anybody.

Cheers all  :daumenhoch:

Hi all

It is interesting about the ZT Serial. This proves that the sequence for Month and Year was always in reverse order as worked out previously.

The month of build, I always thought was about two months late and as more biked have been found think this is correct.

What is missing now though is a Y (Month and Year) Gen 1 Freestyler.

Using the two codes for -

ZT 0015 F
ZT 0019 F

We can read this as Z for manufacture date (Month and Year) as usual, we then have the T for Torker, followed by the four digit 0000 build number, with the F.

With a Y manufacture date we would know when the serial format was changed and how many of the earliest got manufactured.

So, the Y serial, would have a maximum serial of 105 and would either read –

YT 0105 F

Or would be in the later format (the early bikes here though with the normal serial, are only a three digit build number) –

TYY 105 F

It would be e interesting if Torker or Haro know of why the serial number format changed.

I have only gone through some of the data very quickly, but think there is an error with Gen 2 Master - T 08844541 M

This bike has no pictures and has a lower serial number than my July 84 Gen 2 Master which doesn’t add up – typo, or misread serial?

http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z96/Haro_Registry/Gen%202%20Master/T%2008844541%20M/

Thanks all.

J.

THX FELLA's ...yea this is a tribute bike in a sense to the guy I got it from...  As you can see in them old pics from BITD some +25 yrs ago, he was a pretty good freestyler.  So I thought building it exactly like he had it back then was great idea....Only thing left to change is the pedals I have the ones he had on it bitd, the blue shimano dx's, Im just waiting on some end caps to put on them!!   8)

yeah, i have the pic through talking to the seller on ebay, I just wanted the serial for the Haro registery and got talking to the guy, I think he sent Dom a load of pictures of him riding and thats how i've seen them before.
I even loved the bike in its rusty condition, thought it was cool. anyway i think its gone to a good home, you've done a great job of restoring that bike  :daumenhoch:

Actually its 1 of 25 listed and the earliest in existence. I would say its within the first 20 produced after the Freestyler finished in January 84. This frame set is a February 1984 and the first month of production for the 1st Gen Master  :)

Looks great Mark  :daumenhoch:

Question: how are you all stripping your rusty old chrome back to bare metal ready for re-chrome/powder coating?  Looks like it must be hard work!!

Just bought a used Haro for my kids, but am trying to find out more about it. Can somebody please help?
Thanks.

I have searched Haro images, but have not found one like the one I just bought. Can anybody tell me the year and model?
I also found 2 sets of numbers stamped on the bottom tube of the bike. RI-L9E1443, and 753-2334.

82 1st Gen Haro Freestyler, at this time 1 of around 12 known to exist and of those 12 this is 1 of only 2 with a unique 'FS' (rather than the usual 'F') stamped serial number:

Here are the specs.....

Haro Freestyler Frame & Forks TSS1172F (Gen 2)
 Tuf Neck 43 t Sprocket
VDC Monkey Bars with SR MS-422 STEM
Kashimax Aero Seat Nylon from MFG Co Ltd
MX Dia Compte 22 Brake Levers

 Wheels are ACS Z Rims

Photos of the bike just loaded onto Facebook....

I have a Gen 2 Sport survivor  serial number T08840399.
It is the earliest known to exist and probably the first ever to be produced.
It was bought direct from the back of Bob Haro's rental van on his 1985 Uk Tour at Shiners ltd in Bristol for a demo with Ron Wilkerson and Bryan Blyther .

I rebuilt the frameset using era correct original and unrestored parts .

It won runners up award at MK16 in the Open Class
