Title: Sealed rear hub side to side play?
Post by: Hood on June 19, 2016, 03:26 PM
Hey,

I have just this past week fitted both a front and rear hubguard to my Colony Endeavour. The front hub is solid but I noticed that the rear has a small amount of side to side play?! Now the bike is only just over a month old and I've tbh hardly ridden it, therefore I can't imagine this being down to the bearings etc or at least I hope not?!

I've now gotten the cone spanners required and will be looking at this later. Can anyone please give me an idea on how to tighten a sealed hub, does it involve some sort of lock nut?

Many thanks!

Thinking about when I fitted one to my rear Cult hub the guard replaced the lock nut, maybe you need to tighten it up a bit

If I understood that correctly, the wheel has side to side play on the axle?

Yes!!

The wheel DID have slight side to side play but I have since stripped it down, removed the drivers side hubguard and found the hub nut on that side was loose!

Have now used my newly acquired cone nut spanners and tightened it! It's now as solid as it should be, all play eliminated!

Many thanks!
