Title: New School Novice question...
Post by: beard1973 on April 01, 2008, 01:44 PM
Okay... I am currently putting together a NS ride...

I ordered an FSA Orbit headset as pictured below...

This morning I received it along with some other bits and pieces... but they have sent me a FSA Impact...  :-\ which hasn't come with the Top Cap part...???

Is this right?? I'm totally new to anything New School and learning as I go...

Thanks in advance

Beard

I've fired off an email, which also has another complaint...

I also ordered this as well... IN WHITE.

Well that has also arrived but the White Cloth bit has yellow stains on it and the rails are marked where it has been mounted to a post....  :-\ :-\ :-\

Well cheesed off... waited ages to get the funds and then waited for the parts...  ::) and now this...

You don't need the top bit of the headset if your forks come with a top bolt that is specific to the forks.

BUT if you ordered the other one and your seat is used and dirty get in touch with the shop and chew there balls off, I would!

What shop was it?

The forks didn't come with a Top Cap.. which I can't complain about as they and the frame were FOC...

The stuff has all come from ALANS.   :-\

welcome aboard the good ship new school Dave.

it's a complete minefield compared to old school ain't it?

can't really help with your woes as my Colony forks came with a lovely top cap with a slot to push the potts mod cable out the way and tighten
it with the end of a 3/8 drive ratchet.

what you building? I'm guessing a race bike.

Top Man... If there is room in the van I'll throw it in...

The frame came some odd looking BB cups... (see pics)

Like I say... I am a complete newbie novice on anything New School... Do I need a tool to remove these??

I have a new 3 piece crank and BB set up to fit... but unsure of the best way to get these out without damaging my frame...

Should just unscrew with the right tool, think one side will have a left handed thread aswell, make sure you lube the threads when re-fitting.
