Title: Your thoughts on Winstanleys!?
Post by: Weeksy on December 26, 2009, 08:04 PM

Hi all, hope you had a lovely Christmas and not eaten / drunk too much!

Ordered a Redline Mini plate for my little nephew, and got an SE one...

Had to pay for another Redline plate from a disinterested woman on the phone, after stipulating I really need it for Christmas, and guess what?! Another SE plate on my doorstep on Xmas eve!

What is that all about?! If I could find another retailer that does Redline accessories I would be there like a rat up a drainpipe! My first time using them, and will be the last! Anybody else encountered this crap service?

Cheers

Weeksy

I've not heard very much good stuff about Winstanleys, never used them myself & don't think I ever will  ???

Try asking Jai (SE-Bmxer) on here, I think he works for Redline  8)

I've never had a problem with Vert-ego but I have heard of a few who have, but mostly they are pretty good.

Oh dear, I am by no means the first then!!

Dicks! Whoever does the picking or whatever needs a kicking! How about looking to see that what you are packing matches the order slip?! Or am I missing something fellas!?

Vert-ego are normally all ok, if a little heavy on the numbers  ;)

Your thoughts on Winstanleys!?

Utter crap...  >:D

I'd only use em if i rung up to check if they had what i wanted in stock and collected in person

(if i was desperate enough to phone em in the first place and no other shops could get what i wanted)

Ive used ws a few times and only had trouble once when they sent me the wrong size chainwheel. I phoned and they sent the right one the next day and didnt ask for the first one back. Golden words with them is 'do you have it in stock'..

I wouldn't use Winstanleys even if they were the last bike shop in the UK

What have I started?!

That's the thing, I asked if it was in stock the first time, just to make sure! Then the second time, I asked, please please check to make sure you have this plate, as delivery date was right near xmas, and still no.

How are they still in business!?

Alan's rung rings round them, but sadly didn't have what I needed, more the pity.

 >:( To quote their ad in RideUK "Europe`s leading BMX mailorder specialists"-my ar*e!  I`ve used them for years, but the last 2/3 ,they have been appalling.I ordered a seat from them, paid for a next day delivery and got it 2 weeks later. When I opened it,it was the wrong one.I rang & complained & was told to send it back at my own expense.I eventually got the right seat another fortnight later. The hag that runs the place should be burned  alive.... :daumenhoch:

That is shocking fella.

I am just hoping i can get this plate elsewhere, and can tell them to poke it.

And I want every penny back that this excuse for mail order has cost me. They don't deserve the air they breathe...

I ordered 4 izumi chains from then and they arrived 2 days later so I can't really complain about their service. The only reason I bought from them though is that you can't really find those chains anywhere.

My one question is though why aren't you buying locally?

sorry to hear that Scott - never heard anything good about Winstanleys.  Ever!

And Zips Im sure he would buy local (i know Scott pretty well) but do you know where you can find a redline plate locally.  normally i would say Alans for Redline but Obv. they werent in stock.

to send the wrong order two times (the second being just down right the worst possible service you can get) just sucks.

Mr C, how are we doing sir?

As you say, always try and buy locally, but trying to find this sort of thing is hard work fella!

I did a Google search after looking into the usual circuit of retailers, and WS were the only ones! Please tell me I don't have to give them a thrid chance, andn that someone has one of these in stock?!

Tell me dude, couldn't believe it when I opened it!!

Pr!cks!

My one question is though why aren't you buying locally?

I usually do buy locally, but I am after a Shimano XT 9 speed cassette, my local shop wanted £72

On line £44 for the same cassette  ::) with free postage

Now if it was 10% more in my local shop, I would pay this no problem, but that is not far off double  :(

Chris, if you're after the M770 cassette, try Chain Reaction cycles  :daumenhoch:

I know exactly what you're saying, I've tried half a dozen LBS's and most of them are a PITA. There's 2 that I quite like, but they're not exactly local LBS's  :LolLolLolLol:

I wouldn't buy anything from my local bike shop, the owner has no interest in bikes other than a financial one, theirs loads of good bmx shops around that do good for the uk bmx scene sponsoring riders and events etc, the pricings fair, the advice is good, often rider run/owned, its these shops I want to support.

I used WS once, well tried to, to order a seatpost noone else had listed. |They didn't have it, but were very helpful, fella went and looked and called me straight back, so didnt thnk they were bad. But i prob wouldnt risk it again as loads of people seem to have had bad ex.
