Ok, I never post anything anymore (sorry), but I was talking to a buddy on Friday about all things BMX, and being 14 again, and he mentioned he still had this... I thought it might give y'all a buzz so I took some pics of it. A round of applause to the first one to guess correctly - and as a hint, it's not a total piece of shit!

WOOOOOOAAAAAHHHHHH
That just scared the shite out of me!
WTF?!
-
Probably British...Vincent Proto?
-
It's British, Rickman of some description?
-
Scratch that - not a Rickman, but I defo recognise it!
-
looking at the rear brake mount - it very close to a rebel...
-
it's like one of those optical illusions :D :D
-
I like it...for some reason ???
-
Vincent
-
Could be a Vincent?
Freeway? Acorn?
I dunno?
bodamus :-\
-
Sawzall will tell you :daumenhoch:
-
The forks look Rebel, the rear brake mount looks Rebel, the rear drop outs look quite Rebel and its 531.
I hope its not a Rebel... :D
-
i seen one of those before but can`t remember where looks like it passed british safety ;D
-
Points go to Danny (and Sid earlier on). It is indeed a Rebel. My buddy Paul Cook entered that Action Bike comp in 84ish(?) to design a freestyle frame - prize was having it built by Rebel. Apparently, after he'd won, Rebel didn't seem that interested in building it - took them about 9-10 months after he was announced the winner. I guess it didn't lead to the rush to buy Rebels they thought the comp might generate? It's a little rustier, and minus a couple of the more outlandish platforms these days (he took a hacksaw 'em) - it's safely back in the loft now! :) According to Paul it wasn't really a 'rider'. Back then though we didn't care - it was custom made frame with a ton of platforms and peg things. Killer.
-
great story...
what you doing with it
-
oh yeah - got something right for once! Does the winner get the frame? :D
-
Nice that, strange but nice, a quick blast and a SBD paint job and it'll look tops :4_17_5:
-
:4_17_5: to me and sid. Do I get the frame as a prize???
Was your mate on strong acid when he designed that???
Only joking earlier about hoping it wasnt a rebel, it was more cos its now the only Rebel frame I know about that I havent owned. So if your mate wants to sell it, I may be interested.
It looks like its had something chopped off the main cross bar about halfway down. Would love to see photos of it from when it was newly built. Is that the original colour as the 531 fork decal appears original. Shame the rest of the decals didnt survive (or didnt Rebel want to brand it with their name)...lol?
-
::) and you said no more buying!!!! :2funny:
tbh mate - if it did go up for sale it should go with your collection! :4_17_5:

I believe it is the original colour - I can't remember it ever having Rebel decals tho. Everything was painted some shit colour back then. I remember painting some vdc freestyle bars rattle can green. There is a platform missing - from memory, it was kinda like one of those bolt-om Skyway platforms. Thing was, it was so badly designed/positioned, you'd smash your ankles into it every time you cranked. And I vaguely remember it bent, so it got hacksawed off. I can ask him if he'd care to part with it if you want, be rad to see it resto'd - although I've got a feeling it's kinda like his birthright. He'll have it put in his coffin with him! ;D I'll ask if he's got any old pics although you'd stop looking at the frame when you see his mullet.

Thats a weird creation there. Like it I think :D
-
Cool piece of BMX history and a genuine one-off machine 8)
It'll be great to see the Ad for the competition and like Danny said some pics of it as it was originally.
Seeing the guys design entry would be awesome. Ugly or not, it deserves a bit of TLC.
Let's get it restored :daumenhoch:

:LolLolLolLol: That's just how the should be in '84 - like Mr Tickle, all over the place :LolLolLolLol:
