Title: is it wrong to retro a new school bike
Post by: m1ke on January 26, 2011, 07:54 PM
my oldest step son has a wtp beyond that he wont part with but wants to retro style it like a older bike, ive tried to convince him just to sell it and buy a old school bike but hey you know what teenagers are like  ;D

Just put the seat up, job done...  :LolLolLolLol:

You wont be able to  go as high as 44t with the front sprocket, 33t is probably about the biggest you'll get on without clearance issues

Just give it an os look like the one you've posted up, os bikes are shite to ride anyway

Retro is fine, it can be made to look good, but it has also been done to death.

This is probably the 1st new school retro build on radbmx, I did it so long ago it was on the old site!!!

dunno about this....is my 09 dirt bike retro?
think new school bikes generally look better "new school" but maybe I'm being a bit of a hypocrite here.

2 brakes, big fat seat you can sit on and still pedal, Holmes decals, chrome rims...no skin wall tyres though...not keen on that look.

Old school = white walls/skin walls
Mid school = as above
New School = all black  :daumenhoch:  (unless it's a piece of shyte Raleigh then all blue)  ;D

no place for these horrible skin walled things on new school bikes IMHO

New School is ALL about the tan walls now. Oh hang on, its thursday all ready, its all about the coloured walls now!

(ive stuck to black wall's since Primo Vmonsters came out, but my "new school" bike isnt built for a teenager, its for me)

Not exactly on-topic but a question from an ignorant OSer... do the wide NS freestyle tyres give a lot of shock absorption?

I watch a lot of them video clips of kids jumping off buildings on to tarmac or pavements etc and I wonder how the hell do they ride away without injury  ???

They help ..... a bit !

If you tried a big drop on an OS bike it wouldnt just be the tyres you'd be worried about!  ;D

That clip was on some "you've been framed" type show. It had the rider sat on the steps telling you all about the crash. He was pretty funny, making jokes about it all, and finaly saying that he wont be trying it again.

I like tanwalls...  :yahoo_silent:

Even had some on my bike but the weight whore in me made me put KHE's back on

Its coloured tyres or whitewalls that have me reaching for the sick bucket.... yuk!

this is my ride. retroized proper dolomite/haro sport 88 graphics. love tan walls and been running lamellos for years.....
ok its not fully new skool as euro not mid bb, regular 1 1/8" aheadset rather than internal headset but apart from that freecoaster, fly and suelo brakes, etc.

its like anything- down to presonal preference. this is my mine. not that keen on some of the graphics and look to some of the new skool bikes. rather new skool geometry and build/strenght with old skool looks. even been toyin with putting my white tuffs on this to do some riding photos sometime.

sunday i think?   did a cruiser last year that was done retro look although i don't think it was intentional, there is a post on here somewhere with it on ,    dark green and gold looked real nice , going to re do my '06 FreeAgent this summer after the mystery machine project has a bit more done  :-[   FreeAgent will be a  mix of race and freestyle maybe?   like bitd    :D

i think the old   look is quite distinctive and sets the various models of bike apart you can tell a Haro ,or a GT  apart from a mile away mainly due to the look of the bike then the frame etc etc  comes into play ,   new school i'm lost with i see very little difference between a low end or a pro model  on first inspection , you have to look a lot closer to see weather its a pos or not,           unless of course thats cos me eye's are going a bit now  :LolLolLolLol:

becasue people put on their show bikes stuff that might be either the factory spec or what everyone else deems to be the right stuff, rather than things that they thought
were cool, and possilby had as a kid. Those guards are ultimately useless but loads of us wanted/tried one i'm sure.

yeah had a red pro guard on my first DP got the DP for xmas and bunged a pro guard on straight away ,once on looked cool , :daumenhoch:        thing is it was winter and back then i didn't care if it was or had been raining just went out on the bike ,  now what it dosen't say on the pro guard packet is that as well as keeping the oil on you chain it also holds water,   after about a week or so the chain was just about seized up  :LolLolLolLol:,   the pro guard went straight in the bin    :daumenhoch:
