Hey gang, Was having a few thoughts today on what brakes to put on my new rider. Have got a pair of the more popular old skool calipers, but what is your ultimate levers, calipers and block combo. C'mon lads, lets hear 'em.......................
-
Nippons and Tech 7's .. what i had bitd and have them on a load of my builds now 8)
-
Never tried nippons, are the 883's porkchop sells the same in performance?
-
Gotta love Nippons :daumenhoch:

Not sure .. you'd expect them to be better i suppose
-
tech 5 levers all the way bud , i've got loads on my builds and use them on my riders :daumenhoch:

Yes they are the same dude :daumenhoch: In the 80's they were made in Japan, hence the word 'Nippon' stamped on the arm but when Porkie got Dia Compe to make them for re-issue, they had to leave the 'Nippon' part off for obvious reasons ::)
They are the same caliper though. The DC adjuster is not quite the same quality as the old ones :(
Lever wise, as Wildon says, Tech 7's, but they will set you back some dosh, $150 plus for a set to resto, if you can find them of course, so go for the equally as good Tech 77's :coolsmiley: Pick them quite cheap :daumenhoch:
I like the white DC pads for alloy rims and feet for skyways, nylon wheels etc. Its the best way of stopping them :2funny:
-
For me, mx880's get me hot, especially when white or chrome..

Fav levers are Tech 3s. For 1 finger braking, these are the only levers I fave found that deliver enough power..

I meant real feet bro :LolLolLolLol: as most pads on Nylon rims are pants  I have heard 'stickies' are pretty good though :-\
DC880's are my favvy with Nippons a close second :smitten: These Kool Stop Eagle II Salmons are wicked on alloys too dude :daumenhoch:

Good call bro, but like Dee said sometimes it's fashion thang

Recently added an ACS Boa to the front of Master replacing a Nippon, far superior stopping power with the Boa and with my arse off the seat pops endo's no problem. :daumenhoch:
-
Are Boa's the ones you have to drill your forks to 10mm ?

I've got the 6mm bolt version so no drilling needed, they are more commonly found with 10mm bolts but if you wait the 6mm's do come up. :daumenhoch:

Same for me Robbo, added a front and rear Boa, and they are the bolox when it comes to stopping power! :daumenhoch:

Sounds like another good option. What levers and pads are you boa boys runnin'?

Anyone got the ultimate mag pad?
Has anyone used the soft clear pads I keep seeing?

Jon,the new clear pads work brilliantly on mags, they just tend to squeak alot! :daumenhoch:
-
Kool D, what make are you using?
-
I had a pair of savage clear pads on the bike when i took the endo pics.I've got some SKYWAY tuff freestyle pads on it now though as thats what i had bitd, and that bike is going on the wall, but I'll probably go for the clears again for the rider i'm builidng! The SAVAGE ones i used are i think 5.99 on ebay, they come with different colour inserts too :daumenhoch:
-
I'm running the new skyway pads, their ok but nothing to write home about. I've also tried eagle 2's which are fairly similar ???

You have to sand the eagle II's a little first bro to get rid of the smooth surface. Worked for me on Z's, Peregrine's and Skyways :daumenhoch:
-
I did give 'em a quick rub but maybe not enough :) They're ok but I think I just expected a bit more really...................
-
I Use skyway pads on my graphites not the newer version all over eBay but the older type from 2007 ish , only seen them in black and white, i think there made by coolstop, there very soft and work brilliantly but also wear out very quick.

Don't forget you need to fit them right with the trailing edge nearly touching the rim so it applies first upon braking and then the front comes in after :daumenhoch: Don't remove the trailing edge or they don't function properly :P
Have you tried the Eagle II Salmon's dude ??? They have something added apparently :-\ Probably glass :2funny: but they work awesome :daumenhoch:
Hard to get the threaded version of them now though :(
-
Yeh dood I think I know which skyway pads you're on about
I'm running skyways dood :-\ so I'm trying to use white or clear pads but I've heard they are wicked on rims

mate, the clear pads bite right from the off,if you still have no stopping power check the brake setup! :daumenhoch:
