Looking at the fantastic turn out of old skool bmx's on show at Bournemouth on Monday, I noticed that its the expensive bmx's that are mostly restored, or found NOS at the back of an old bike shop ! ie quads, Rippers and TA's were very well represented, but the cheaper ones seem to have disapeared.
My Redline was the only one there I saw (apart from the cruiser), and that Pirahna..... I don't even remember them. Also surprised there wern't more Raleigh Burners in attendence.
So it got me thinking what do you think is the rarest old skool BMX around today ?

Hmmm...
Tough that one...
Rare?
probably something like the SR Vice Sport as I have only ever seen one, and it was a sweet bike.

Rarest bike must be an early Team Murray, few people on here want one and not one has turned up in the 5/6 years I've been about.

what I mean is the early Team Murray 5340 / 5360 models with the lester mags and stuff.
I have this later Puch:
And a slightly later Murray - pics to follow but I'd really like an early one where the seat stays just looped round and were just about tacked to the seat tube.
And that freestyle Kuwy was very nice..
-
What a bit like this Murray with Lester mags.... ;D

Couldn't agree more - sadly I think it's because they all disintegrated in 1985. Simultaneously.
-
Not many Curtis bikes out there! ;)
-
interesting one this what`s rare now i thought vdc were but in the last few years quite a few have turn up .i still think vincent ,prolite cc ,and some of the early kuwarhara`s .i mean how many of them on display not many also raceinc`s .i should have had two on display but not finished next year may be .
that why i stuck the piranha in the display as yes it`s rare as hell and why because they were cheap and broke and very heavy .
-
TA 24 Incher.
I WIN!!!
-
not many mrd pro s out there either.
-
What about CW's ?? esp the phaze 1 "Z"
I agree you don't see many Curtis or Race inc's. Also the VDC's, mmm I always wanted one of those when I was a kid. So nice to see 3 of them on Monday .

If you are handing them out - I'm at the front of the queue! :)
-
I'll go with the Puch. Mine was the same as the one in the pic (blue/yellow). Never seen one on the bay or built!
Will be funny when one does pop up - bet it'll fetch big bucks!
-
when i was in nyc earlier this year there was a bike shop with a yamaha bmx from the mid 70's on the wall, fully restored & not for sale, now that must have been worth something
-
I had a Yamaha bmx, the 80's version a BZ401 (I think).
-
The rarest BMX in the U.K. is a 1985/6 Mongoose Eric Rupe Signature edition.
Fatter tubes than a pro class.Longer front end and shorter rear.
Ammaco did not import any.
I only know of one in this country.
Very,Very rare in the U.S. as well.
Anyone got one ? seen one ?
-
I am the proud owner of a JMC justin roos Mini, there were only 54 of them made, I have every serial number on a scan Jim Melton made from his records.
They were built with a thinner down tube to nmormal JMC mini's and had a tendancy to break. I have only heard of one other person who has one. (Adam Cox)
So I am putting that forward as a rare example
There were also only about 86 JMC Micro Mini's made, I also own one of those
JMC Rare
- JMC JR & MM Very rare !

Julian, great picture. Maruishi is who sponsered Nicky Dalton before he was picked up by Redline, must be the Devon connection as he lived in Newton Abbot.
Sander, that National Pro is really nice, I have always liked those bikes.
