Theres a few on here that already knew I had this frame set and kept asking me when if would be built, well it finally is at long last ;D
This is my 79 STR-1 don't confuse this with the STR-1 prototype that Jeff ownes :daumenhoch: This is the production version of that frame and was called the STR until 1980 when it changed to the Quadangle after Stu left SE 8)
It's a rare frame and needed to be built up with some choice parts to do it justice and thats when the head scratching started, It took me a long time to decide on the colour and the parts options but decided on the frames original colour and to go for not just era but year correct parts too with a combination of some NOS and restored ^"^
Need to give a couple of shout outs to Dan for the paint "amazing job as always pal :4_17_5: :4_17_5:" and Pete for letting me know where the frame was :4_17_5:
Rundown of the spec.
1979 STR-1 FRAME
GEN 1 LANDING GEAR FORKS
1979 TUFF 1'S
CARLISLE AGGRESSORS
GEN 1 MCS STEM
SE MAXI POWER WING BARS
HUNT WILDE GRIPS
PLME SEAT CLAMP :smitten: :smitten:
LAGUNA POST
MESSINGER SEAT
TAKAGI MX CRANK
TAKAGI MX CHAIN RING & SPIDER
ATOM PEDALS
How I got the frame, I was tempted to keep it as it was but the paint was too far gone. At this stage I was going to use the Cycle Pro forks but I have a lot of these and wanted to use something different so opted for the Gen 1 LG's

B.M.X :smitten:

That is just all kinds of lush Ash.
The best bike I have ever seen on Rad. :4_17_5:
The standard of bikes on this site never cease to amaze me.
And the absolute rarity of the frame is even overshadowed by the PLME seat clamp, who the hell has seen one of those before on any site?
Top build and will quite rightly take all the plaudits at MK12.
-
I'm going to wipe bogies on it ;D
Tis a thing of beauty Ash and looking forward to seeing it in a few weeks time :daumenhoch:

Theres been some great early bikes on RAD this year, all must have taken a lot of time and effort to source parts, probably from the US.
Likin the black finish crank and the PLME clamp amongst other things :smitten:

Not really Ash, I think it's Fookin ace as I would expect from you. :daumenhoch: but I don't like the tyres, i know they're correct but they're too bïg and ugly so change em. Immediately.
Adam
-
awesome Ash,your builds are always pretty unique.proper old old school :4_17_5:
-
shwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeet
-
:LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: Adam...go on then tell me which set of 79 tyres would be better than the Aggressors ^"^ other than the obvious cycle pro's and comp II's which are on other builds ^"^
-
Trouble is that the ONLY tyres to suit that bike is the aggressor, anything else would be crazy in all kinds of ways. In my opinion those tyres nailed it, nailed it, nailed it.
-
freakin awesome! :4_17_5:

love it .... ;) would'nt change a thing.....

Have no worries the tyres will be going NOWHERE ;)

Fabulous build. It's bikes like this that raise the bar time & time again & that can only be a good thing.
My own 1978 Quicksilver has become a frustrating pursuit of both knowledge, …. of the parts that were available when it was made, & the chasing down of correctly dated components.
In my case I need to factor in a fudge factor of the time lag between when the component was made & the time it would take to place it on the store shelf over here in Oz. so components need to be dated roughly four to six months earlier [or more] than the actual build date of my frame [October 1978]
I now have a great respect for those that have the patience & the resources to pull it off & this bike is just another inspiration to keep me going.
Loving it

Awesome build :4_17_5: out of interest do most of your bikes, parts etc come from US Ebay and the bmx Museum? cos I never ever see stuff like this in the UK? ???
