Title: Tribute build to my 80's DP
Post by: ED209 on August 10, 2012, 11:16 AM
As Rob Pickle said 'Just gotta scratch that itch!'

Thought I was over building bikes then in the last month its really got me fired up again  :)

I decided it was time to have a go at a tribute to my old ride I had when I was 16... a flourescent pink DP  8)

I sold it around 87/88 when I got into skating, then brought it back 92ish when it had been ruined by some kook ( sprayed a different colour - without being taken apart! ) got it all resto'd and rebuilt then took it with me to Coventry where its was stolen after 2 weeks  :knuppel2: :knuppel2: ( the loss still wounds me )

Didn't think about BMX again until 2009 when I saw a green DP that Greek Steve had built and it got the ol'juices flowing again  :) Searched my Mums house for all my old pictures that I had of my riding days... but they had moved and dumped them  :knuppel2: cheers! so I didn't have any pictures of my old bike other than one black and white cutting from a paper ....

Got in touch with a mate I used to ride with and he said he had a couple of pics somewhere ... so he dug them out and sent them over  :daumenhoch:

Since getting that picture I have had the 'itch' to build it up again - maybe not 'exact' ... but a good tribute  :D and not costing the earth ( how many times have we said that )

Finally got this project moving by picking up a broken DP from Hootski Si ... the idea of getting it sorted appealed to me no end ... so its getting handed over to Animal Steve @ MK for some magic   and the parts hunting has began...

stripped down
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/i63/209ed/P1040665.jpg)

Part needed below if you can help  ;) all in used 'rider' condition please... I'm looking for 'used but decent' quality :-) not fussed on NOS but will consider any condition. I'm not trying to build a show bike  8)

Old MRD brakeguard
Used white Panaracer FS tyres or any white tan wall freestyle tyres
Speedwheels Spinner ... anybody remember these!
ACS Mini Mtn Levers - chrome / black
Fluted chrome snake post
2 x white koolstop pads
green GT fold down footstands,
skyway or haro stem pad ( white with little logo )
old white dice kaps
white sharp freestyle griplocks

There's bits that I know I will nevs get ... like the ACS Mini Mtn Levers ... but I've got some DC ones so its close enough ... very chuffed to have got the seat off Jaybeg, peds of MiniSpen and the stem of Ian Bodamus... they were 'must haves' ... now if any one wants to swap a complete 91 Sport for GL Plus f&f & bars then let me know  :D

I can never see how they thought the angle on that head tube was right?  ???  It's so relaxed it's a crime, I tried riding one of these a few years ago and it was the worst handling bike I've ever ridden.

Look Fooking cool though  :daumenhoch:

I think you'll struggle with the speedwheels spinner, They only made a couple of dozen.

I sometimes see Mike Murray (Mr speedwheels) around Town, but he now is into flooring, not bmx, so probs can't make you one.

We can discuss this at MK in more detail!!
