As you guys most probably are aware by now, I get bored riding the same bike and need a change on a regular basis ::) ;D
So my last rider, the GT Pro Series, got the heave ho and went to a good home :daumenhoch:
It was a great, smooth ride though so, I felt I had to try out one of these as I have never owned or ridden one. I wanted a chrome 84/85 version but, they are like rocking horse poo when you want one so, the next best thing, a white one :)

I have most of the parts to go on it so shall get busy over the next week or so to get it together :daumenhoch:
-
Nice...... :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
What build date?
I'll be keeping a eye on this thread considering my dilemma!
-
....and what colour trim? :coolsmiley:
-
This one is a 1986 bro :coolsmiley:
It states 4130 on the stay slant but I think these were not fully 4130. Costa should know though :daumenhoch:
I have these to go on. I know the Tuff's are first gen and dated around 1980 but, they are coaster and what I wanted. The tyres are CW freestyle, around '87.

Didn't the 86 have a brace on the lower chain stays?
-
Didn't the 86 have a brace on the lower chain stays?
I don't know much about them to be honest, only the info I have gathered since wanting one. The serial states '86 and it's a World Tour model so, whether they didn't put the stay on this model, I can't tell you bro :-[
-
Didn't the 86 have a brace on the lower chain stays?
no 87 onwards
-
Is this a Japanese welded frame ?
-
Nice!! :daumenhoch:
Are you gonna ride on those tyres? Seems a shame to ruin them.
-
Looking forward to seeing this come together Terry! Nice :daumenhoch:
-
oooo nice that terry :smitten: .......im sure you will do the right thing not like 80% peeps do and put 86 decals on it
yep your right there not full chromo and brake bridge was fitted to basic 87 performers, cant tell properly from pic but bars look 87 could be 89
:daumenhoch:
-
You don't want to be putting those tyres on a GT!
-
Nice project and I like those tyres. :daumenhoch:
-
Are you gonna ride on those tyres? Seems a shame to ruin them.
Erm....I was going to yes ;D Now I feel guilty :D
You don't want to be putting those tyres on a GT!
::) :)
-
I'm sure you will do the right thing, not like 80% peeps do and, put 86 decals on it
Not going to go too mad on it bro as it's going to get the life ridden out of it but, if you have any decals, I will replace them for you :coolsmiley:
I'm looking to replace the bars and post with chrome ones. The knurling on these is quite deep, if that helps mate. Cannot see any stamp either, unless it's under the paint or decal :-\
-
Nice gt that. Looking forward to seeing it built up terry. :4_17_5:
-
Very nice indeed.
-
That's a great FF Terry. Love those fork drop outs!

::) :)
Trade those tyres with me Terry and that'll stop you feeling guilty, plus you'll get a couple of parts you're after... :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks gents. I will keep you posted on how it progresses :daumenhoch:
Chris, I'm thinking about it mate. I just need to find some GT tyres in good enough shape for riding :)
-
This will be good, I just know it :D
-
Is this a Japanese welded frame ?
Or Yank or Taiwan ... Anyone?
I've scanned the web but can't figure out totally what I'd be looking for on a jap frame apart from a sticker ... ???

all jap frames had a baseball stamped with seriel number inside the drop out, all foreign gt frames from 86 were made in taiwan as far as im aware

Ah Right Ok so Koizumi made...
Harder to get hold of by the looks of things..
I'm thinking that will be this years build for me ;)

The "baseball" logo is not a baseball as many of us thought. It is derived from the first kanji character of the name Koizumi as seen on the factory entrance plate :daumenhoch:

Anyhow, as this is purely a rider, I made a start on it today :daumenhoch:
NOS Gyro 2, Tange MX-2 headset, NOS '86 dated front Nippon :smitten: and mint rear '85 dated MX900.
Not sure whether to use the Skyway's now as my mate thinks I would be stupid to start running brake blocks around the stamped rim :-\ :(

I have a NOS black Pro Neck ring for it but not sure on the disc. It was drilled out by the previous owner for some reason, but badly :idiot2: I will put the ring on and see how it looks.

Not liking the gyro
-
Its a yes from me, I like the gyro but maybe one with a black plate would tie in better with the other black/polished parts? :daumenhoch:
-
very very nice i like
-
I like it but white tuffs and grips would look better.
-
Sherweeeet mate :coolsmiley:......really loving the look of that :smitten: I really fancy a Performer one day. It's great that it's going to be ridden too and those yellow tuff's......wow!! 8) I have the same set, though not NOS. I love this build Terry apart from the pedal colour!I reckon black would look way better!but they kinda give it an air of 80's authenticity i guess! :daumenhoch:

Cheers dude. I have got black DX or black KKT's but, I thought I would mix it up a little with the blue pedals. Like you say, that 80's feel.
It's going to chopped around now for riding though. I can't bring myself to ride those Tuff's, even though I want to so, I picked up some Z 48's for it :daumenhoch:
-
Sweet build Terry :daumenhoch: :4_17_5:

Thanks Daz
-
Well, I got 'persuaded' not to ride the Yellow Tuffs :( so, I went for something a little different instead.
Now with Z 48's, DK HF hubs and some 'new school' tyres :daumenhoch:
It now weighs a cool 13.5 kilo's (29.7 pounds)

Just noticed this...looks awesome. Very authentic. :daumenhoch:
-
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I really like it on the spokes :) Might even look be nicer looking than the tuffs :idiot2:
-
looks the business :coolsmiley:
not often you see 48 zs
-
Looking good with the Zd's on, glad you're not riding on those Tuff's(they were way too mint for a rider :smitten:). The only thing i would change are the tyre's...............for some of those Kenda K55 freestyle tyre's(exact copy's of the Panaracer's). This is only my personal opinion, not trying to diss you're bike mate :coolsmiley:
It's a mighty fine ride you have there :4_17_5:, i would love a chrome one :smitten:................one day maybe.
Buz :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks gents :coolsmiley: I would love chrome one too Buz but, beggars couldn't be choosers at the time :(
I'm glad how this has turned out, although, I will need to become Arnie to lift it :crazy2:
It rides real nice too. After trying out Costa's yellow early one, this is a little better with different fork geometry. The steering is more responsive and feels very agile. Once I have plucked up the courage to 'drop this in', I will see if I can at least get a little air with it ;D
-
Some sunshine shots :daumenhoch:

-
Love that build mate. You're getting the hang of this bmx malarkey now aren't you :LolLolLolLol:
Spokes everty time for me work better than Tuffs but why is it so heavy?
-
i like it better with the tuffs. imo. :daumenhoch:
-
nice tel very nice
-
Looks cool :daumenhoch:
Fancy a swap on the Nippon? Polished silver for your black
