Hello to everybody ;)
I've recently purchased a second hand HARO BMX, I think it's an ultra flat land.? Possibly 1996 model..? But I'm not sure. Its a twin top tube, bottom mega tube chromo 4130 frame. The serial number is HR KL6 3898. Although the 6 could possibly be a 5.(bit worn), Any help would extremely appreciated. Thank you. Jase ;)

bang up a few pictures. i'm no Haro guru but sounds like a 90's Master/Zippo to me
-
think chromoly would rather be a Master
edit: ...ooops, HARO ULTRA 1996 would be chromo, too
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/haro/?year=1995-1998&model=1617
serial however sounds bit more Zippoish
only Ultra serials i heard so far were KH... something, but i could be incredibly wroong

Now I know they are quite obviously the wrong STICKERS for this bike, So Engore those.
-
Could be a Master as it has 990 mounts on the chainstay, i thought the Zippo didn't ???

yep, 1996 Zippo wouldn't have em (->http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,164734.msg1646750.html)
however the one in link has a different serial# ("H0-K6A1820") than Jase's (HR KL6 3898)
-- and newer zippos again very well have 990s mounts.. (f.ex wr302's here ->http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/haro/68617/2)
to complicate things: early Zippos were apparantly all hi-ten, wheras a 1999 one f.ex would have had the main triangle in 4130 chromoly.
like (the) Ultras also (mid 90's)Masters had serials starting with KH... (also Revo's and even others, to make this insane)
and as cherry o top i have also found a Master starting wth HR... (a 1990 Bashguard however)
My money-s on 1997 Zippo -- so i'd if you care anyway ...would check serials of those and compare. (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v521/fischflo/snif_.gif)

Christ...On a bloody scooter :-/ I thought it was going to be a lot easier than this. Ha...! Your all very helpful though, and I appreciate your combined help in this rather baffling diagnosis. Ahhhhhhh....
-
The bike also came with these forks.
apparently they are ultra folks from possibly 96 and weight a ton

-
It says "APREBIC" 97 07. CR-MO 175 at the top part of them
-
What i said above makes no real sense
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/haro/14829 1997 Haro Ultra
- serial# kh6g2916 .................again one of these KH....numbers
- with your forks however.

JTinNC over on bmymuseum (http://bmxmuseum.com/user/27720) ....knows his stuff.
I blelieve he could help you.
THis bike bugs me - lotsa guys say the 96/97 ULTRA's a great bike (and better than a Zippo, Revo etc), and call it the last real Twin top tube MASTER. (..not that a Zippo wasn't liked by many as well)
So it'd be interesting to find out what it is - the Ultra seems to be a badly sought after bike by some :daumenhoch:
-
Ok. I'll enlist on the museum, contact this guy you recommend, post a pic, and see wGat happens.
I'm really hoping its an ultra ;)
Thank you for you help :)

....what does dedmann posting the link to that 1996/1997 Ultra mean? That's a KH6....-number and not a HR KL6...-number like yours :P Ask him...lol
lol.... we're cross-siting now...
-
Still non the wiser on this possible Ultra :
:-\
-
A) ....some 'evidence' hinting toward zippo
98 Ultra
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=323468
"This is on my '98 Ultra..." KH...
97 Zippo
http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/haro/23459
"Serial: HR-K6K very late 1996 build date, 1997 model. First model year for the Zippo.
B)
on the other hand the description of your bike on ebay sounds...... believable.... concerning the "also included original Haro ultra forks." .....? Let's see...
i dunno what the forks ON the bike now are........... if they turn out to be of a ultra/master/zippo ....i'd say the seller just added the fusion v brake forks.
If the turn out to be "m7 flatland" as seller says...... i guess the fusion v brake forks are original.
THree ways to find out what's the deal:
a) pm different owners of ultras nad zippos and ask kindly for serials
b) incase you wanna strip and paint the frame: THink a file would slide off cromo. (if there were a spot w/o chrome where you could test & w/o using pressure). Also heard that chromo 'dings' when you thump it.
[=> early zippo would be all hi-ten, ...ultras always full chromoly .... see following link:]
Just some info on the Ultra: http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/lofiversion/index.php/t27006251.html
(open via google cache incase log in issues)
c) Maybe the frame aint chrome underneath the paint -> forks then added
tenacity :slayer:
oh, and might wanna post in the "mid school haro" thread as well, as many experts there
-
Thank you for your help and reply ;)
