Title: Would you put new skyways on an 80's build?
Post by: Bornintheusa on May 24, 2014, 03:52 PM: I'm restoring an 87 d-tour and debating going with old school mags from the 80's or just picking up a new pair of skyways. What's your opinion on using new skyways for an 80's build?

Post by: Retrodan72 on May 24, 2014, 04:09 PM: I put new Tuffs on my '85 Streetbeat, the purists won't like it, but with modern sealed bearings they're great for riding. I'd recommend getting the axles cut down and the ends rounded off though. :daumenhoch:

If I'm building a race bike I use spokes. If a freestyle bike I use mags. Especially an 87 d-tour, not too fond of how they look with spokes

"New" plastic hubs yes but loose ball not sealed bearings, modern Skyways have daft refector holes drilled into them too but as others have said, the good news is that you can find OG for the same money.
