Title: Pob Sparrow update
Post by: Jaymz on February 19, 2017, 01:49 PM
In the pursuit of my idea of building a bike straight out of a shed.  The 6 year Pob Sparrow build took another tentative step forward today.  So now she is wearing the only tyres as a kid I could get. Comp lll pattern. Gone are the modern tyres that have had a good couple of hundred on miles. And the fat thin worn down to fook look is here.  I realise this is probably a controversial choice to some. But I couldn't care less (there's more thought in this build than most) this is (almost) the 12 year old me's dream bike. Still need to find an orphan blue Og tuff and some tatty yellow or maybe red Og grips.  Hope you like my vision

its way harder than you think isn't it..  I've wasted so much money building this.  It's a loop of buy bits look shit sell buy sell..  Some ideas I've had have just looked shocking.  Simple things can also kill it. As a kid I ran my rear brake under the stays. Tried it on this and it looked shocking as fook.
Also pads. Had a top tube pad on it for ages never sat well took it off and felt much better..  I wish it was as simple as throw parts at a frame and boom but its way more than that. Getting the right wear on each part is the hardest. The tyres have taken a while to get right without having to wear a pair down.

I like that! It's lack of matching colours is so charming. Most of the bikes I remember from my older brothers friends bitd looked just like that.  :daumenhoch:

The right wear is a pain! Then you eventually buy a part and it dont look right so you are back to square one. I wanted my tyres to look proper worn, all my tyres were bald bitd but finding em now is virtually impossible as they get binned. Was lucky to spot a set in the back of a photo in a resto thread from an auzzie guy. Never seen another set since with this amount of wear.
Show builds are a doddle compared with this.
