Title: 1982 Procraft Ultima - Scabby Rider
Post by: Chilli Rinse on April 13, 2020, 09:37 PM
Finally finished her today. Very smooth and nice to ride but I will be tweaking her as and when parts present themselves. All parts and decals should be blue but I went with black ! I think it’s classed as race/street on the museum so I put it in this section as I didn’t start a build thread in Tech & Resto.

Nice build that, these Ultimas have the 5" headtube don't they ???

Thanks Spen. Yeah, I've heard them likened to Redline for that reason. They came with some decent kit but mine's not all spec correct. Should have ukai on suzue, shimano freewheel, shimano dx pedals, viscount saddle, v bars and dc mx's with tech II type levers

Looks good mate! As you say, you can swap out the non-spec parts as and when budget and/or time allows but in the meantime, just enjoy it as it is. Fwiw, I like the black mags/tyres look! Also good to see that Del came up trumps again! :daumenhoch:

Thanks Mikku, I'm kinda liking the black on black too, works better than skinwall on this build I reckon and the ones used were a freebie. Del's decals were top notch, although I did put a wrinkle or two in them whilst fitting, amateur. When his site is up and running again I'll be getting the kidney decals for the brakes. I do have the dx's but they need a refurb and I put a shimano freewheel on but the body was rubbing on the stay so swapped it out. It was a little wider but should have worked, might be because of the short dropouts ??? I've got some nos Shimano dx levers but I'm saving them for now. Thanks for your comments dude  fistblump

Cheers dude 👍🏼 The spec has it at 17.25” but it looks longer. I’ll double check later  :daumenhoch:

Great job, always liked these frames, and nearly grabbed one myself a couple of weeks back. Looks so 'old school' and ready for a good 'blat'  :4_17_5:

Thanks for your comments guys  :daumenhoch: I’m sure she’ll see some action soon.
Picklez.. was that the one on eBay located in Hungary ? If it was you should have got it. It looked pretty minty to me, put mine to Shame! My offer was knocked back but it was so cheap should have just bought it at the bin price  :idiot2:

Think that's the one buddy. Yes, I know one of us should have grabbed it, but last minute I put my 'sensible head' on and walked away. My wife's being so tolerable at the moment as loads of stuff keeps landing on the door matt and I build a bike in our bedroom, so thought that one may have been a step too far  :2funny:

:LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: Yup, good call. I’m usually garage based but was allowed in the kitchen to finish the Procraft. Better light and obviously nearer the kettle  :daumenhoch:

Builds sometimes take a while  :LolLolLolLol: I bought the frame set in Jan last year from the Netherlands. BMX is truly loved on a global scale and your frame set finding a home in OZ is cool. Mine was put on the back burner a few times due to other builds and the bad chrome. Couldn’t justify a re finish so I built as is.

Tidy ride you got there Toby and a proper old school look. ACS Mags very underrated IMO and not many nice sets around. Be interested to know how the weight of them compare to Tuffs

Thanks Paul, she turned out ok. The Z’s, not used as much as tuffs and they suited my budget, cheap  :daumenhoch: weight wise from memory are on par with tuffs. Not massively heavier or lighter. Next time they’re off I’ll weigh them. Your freewheel helped me out on this build mate  :4_17_5:
Thanks

I treated the Procraft to a nice set of spoked wheels. Unbranded anodised black rims on Suzue hubs. They look more at home than the Z Mags did. I will probably put some amber wall tyres on soon, although the all black with the shiny sides looks ok for now. I might lose the front brake too, the reach is way too long and I'm not keen on the look. Got to drop the saddle a bit too.

Cheers Pete, I'm going to but my decent tyres are already on bikes  :LolLolLolLol: I might buy some cheap Duro's or Ammaco's.

A completely different look with spoked wheels!! I like both but as with Skyway T/As, I tend to prefer spokes over mags and feel the same here. 8)

Yes to skinwalls too! :daumenhoch:

They came equipped with spoked wheels so it was always going to happen  :daumenhoch:

A pair of Ammaco Comp III's in black have been ordered, 6 quid Black Friday discount too. Not quite skinwall but they have the look and seem to have less gumwall area than the Duro's, like they should be   fistblump

Cheers gents. It might need sliding back a little I guess  Those Cinelli CMX's cut upwards sharp from the middle of the saddle to the rear, leaving a little more of the guts on show than on most saddles. That's my excuse  :LolLolLolLol:
When I drop the saddle a little I will slide it back a bit too.
