Just watched a VHS tape of the 1984 Kellogs meeting from Birmingham.
With Billy Stuple hooking up, the comentator said he had done the same the previous week in Wigan.
Did you not get on with them orange and yellow ramps Billy?
Wicked footage :)
-
I believe those ramps ended up at Ardwick leisure centre (Manchester behind the Apollo) and i can assure you they where sh1t
-
Yeah, one trick ramp and a 1/4 pipe...they ll not be there now surely, 22 year old now
-
No No No Im talking straight after the kellogs whatever year that was, I know I said they where sh1t (they where) but I did used to spend 3 hours gettting there to ride them for an hour before we had to dash back for the train.
-
That was a brill series.... good ideas for rebuilds.
I wonder what happens to the factory freestyle bikes, do you recon the riders get to keep them?
Have to ask Billy when he is on line
-
the hook up is part of bills run by all accounts... ;)

I am still hooking up, well I was at Rom today anyway :crazy2:
The trouble was that the whole seriers was filmed over 1 week, and the weather was shit up North, as usual, and very windy so it all got a bit scary on those ramps.
To be honest all the ramps were shit back then, I never rode on a decent ramp untill I got back in to bmx a couple of years ago :daumenhoch:

Its gorgeous here you cheeky fecker! :LolLolLolLol:
-
I knew you`d pick me up on that Geth :LolLolLolLol:
-
Did you get to keep any of your factory bikes then Bill?
-
Yep, but I either gave my spare stuff away or it got nicked when I had it up for sale at Rom :(
-
Bet you wish you had kept it now..Must have been so cool BITD having all the latest kit :-[
Did you get to choose what you had off Skyway or did they just giving you gear?
-
We got to choose what we wanted, and some stuff was given to us by other manufactors like CW bars ect.
-
I cant imagine how good that would be as a teenager....bet your mates were'nt jealous!! LOL
-
TBH getting a full factory sponsorship was what made me give up later on, riding became like a job and the enjoyment went out of riding for me, so once birds, boose and cars came on the scene that was the end of it for me :(
-
True, i guess i can see that side to it as well.
Skyway seemed quite tuff to work for, from what i can gather. Why did they sack Neil back in 1985?
-
I`m not sure that he got the sack, it could have been that Andy offered him a better deal to ride the Holeshot :coolsmiley:
-
They sacked neil cos he had his own point of view. he wanted to do things his way and use to talk to peter hawkins man to man. where as peter prefered craig as he would accept anything he said and always did what he was told. then as neil was getting radder than craig and craig was supposed to be the golden boy it was causing friction. neil wanted to push the limits of his riding and was pulling away from craig who generally played it safe in competitions.
-
craig campbell was a pioneering street rider though

craig campbell was a pioneering street rider though
that's true, but at the time it didn't fit in with the skyway mould, so that side of him was kept private until after he left.

Hi Billy et al,
Thanks for replying to my thread...
Have you still got copies of all your tv footage Billy? Its such along time ago mow bet its wierd watching it now :D
-
I`ve got a bit of it, like kellogs and bmx beat, and some other stuff that was on regional telly, but there`s still alot out there from shows and promos that I`ve never seen.
TBH it looks shit nowdays anyway ;D
-
I disagree,
I had not seen the tapes for at least ten years until yesterday and i was well impressed..unless its just nostalga.
Some of guys on BMX Beat 1984 seemed a bit average...Both the Kellogs 1984/85 were good, i must admit i was more interested in the bikes than the stunts like.. so my view is a bit anoraky ;)
-
TBH it looks shit nowdays anyway ;D
that air in your av looks as good now as it did then
-
Birds and booze...!!! thats the same reason i gave up Billy, :'(
