I didn't realise until a guy at work told me - he used to skateboard there when it was like that
-
Oh yeah........ it had the same wall as the halfpipe. Hence the name 'Performance'. If you speak to an oldschool skater about it you'll find that they call it a budget bowl now the wall is gone.
I started riding in 82 and it was long gone by then :'(
-
Holy shite-sticks! That's MASSIVE!
Never ever knew it had been like that and I rode it from about 83...
Awesome pic dude.

I skated there when it was like that, Harrow's performance bowl was the same too...

I have seen that pic of Harrow with the extension but never of Rom. That "performance" bowl at Harrow is still coverd up, right? They have dug up the peanut and the skate bowl that were both filled in for most of the 90s as well

Yeah, legend has it they tried to dig the peanut bowl out back in the late 80's but found an old Ford Escort buried in it so just filled it back in as it was too much work to get the car out :idiot2:
-
marty we tried to dig it out, there was no car in it, come the monday the council filled it back in

Thanks Pete, that's another urban legend up is smoke :LolLolLolLol:

is that right that the peanut is ridable now? I saw a pic (on here I think) and it looked like it was dug out. During the 90s the skate bowl, perfornamce and peanut were all filled in but the last time I went (A while ago) the skate bowl was empty.

Alex, I don't think the Classic Pool as it used to be called has ever been filled in, always been open for as long as I can remember :daumenhoch:

The first few times I went there, prob in the early 90s, the white fugure 8 shaped pool with the propper pool coping was filled in and so was the peanut. I had seen pictures of the white bowl (Andy Ruffell on the cover on BMXA number 3?) and the first time I rode it I was amazed how kinked the transition was and with the funny roll in thing, that may have been added later. I havent been there since the peanut had been dug out.
Here is a pic of Harrow and it shows everything empty apart from the bowl that used to have extra vert (like the half pipe), and also a pic of how that bowl used to be.

The extra vert went well before Crazylegs started riding there, I think it got taken down in 78/79.

Pete, I rode and skated Harrow a hell of a lot during the 70's and 80's and don't remember the Classic Pool being filled, I'll ask Dave Hopkins, Harrow Boy extrodinaire as he'll know the dates for sure :-\

you is the man
-
Pete, you are right! Email from Dave (www.harrowboyz.com) ...
"Yup, some of the local lowlifes thought it would be fun to drive a car into it and set it on fire when there was no fence around the park and the council decided to fill it with earth to protect everybody. Didnt last too long though and they saw the light and dug it out again."
So that's where the urban legend of the car comes from , not the peanut but the Classic Pool :LolLolLolLol:
