Okay guys, the dates are set for Scotland's first Old School Race Series - The Scottish OSS Winter Series 2007 :daumenhoch: Martin is busy getting our race plates ready, which will be based on the design below (final design will be posted asap). What I need everyone to do now is register themselves for the series and pay their registration fee so I can pay Martin for the race plates. Registration will be £10 for the series, which includes the cost of your race plate. Each race will be £5, and trophies will be awarded at the end of the series to the top 8 riders and medals for everyone else taking part. Any 'profit' from this race series will be used to make donations towards the Stephen Murray fund, and also radbmx :daumenhoch: Payment by paypal to: kennyhunter4130@supanet.com or send me a PM.
Series sponsors include:
BSD, Alans, and Groove Racing, who have all promised to donate some freebies to be given away during the series
Top Prize for the overall Series Winner is a brand new Dialled Bikes MX20 Frame, kindly donated by Mike at Dialled Bikes! :4_17_5: Thanks Mike, You're a star!!

4. paulo (PAID)
5. Big M (PAID)
6. Stevo (PAID)
7. Ali Stewart (PAID)

WINTER SERIES DATES - AMENDED - PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
All racing will be on a SUNDAY. Registration/Gate Practice from 3pm, Racing asap after that. Dates and times have been amended due to the club starting weekly race training sessions between 1pm-3pm for a local youth group. We've also moved the January/February dates to make racing every 2 weeks, and the series will be decided on the best 4 races out of 6 (even more of a reason to come to the double points race!), just to give those who can't make it to every round a fighting chance.
Round 1 - November 4th
Round 2 - November 11th
Rd3 - December 9th CANCELLED
Round 3 - January 13th (double points)
Round 4 - January 27th
Round 5 - February 10th
Round 6 - February 24th
The usual OS Rules will apply for this series. Top 4 races out of 6 count towards final placings. All rounds will take place at Clydebank track as it is unlikely that we will be able to get any other Scottish tracks race-ready with a start gate in time. We will be looking to include other tracks for the Summer series though :daumenhoch:.
Track address is: Onslow Road, Drumry, Clydebank, G81 2PL

The final design for the race plates is this rather cool design by Martin (BrewUK) - Note to all plate collectors - You can buy one of these plates by registering for the series. We won't hold you to attending any races, just the £10 registration will get you one of these plates posted to your door. You'll also be helping support the series and helping us make a donation towards the Stephen Murray appeal and radbmx to help with the running costs of our favourite OS website :daumenhoch: Top 10 plates will be reserved for End-Of-Season presentation but all other numbers will be given out to those who register, and will be distributed as soon as I receive them from Martin. At the moment numbers 11-30 are available, with more to be added if these all go.

This would be fantastic if you can get this sorted, The South has established a series, Dingo is working hard on a Midlands one, and the North is making progress. If we can get regions to take part, then we are going to push for a national series of perhaps 4 National races, with a final round at MK in 2008. :daumenhoch:
-
us lads down my way have been talking about this, if we can get enough guys together :daumenhoch:
-
Kenny I made this a sticky topic, lets hope you get enough support :daumenhoch:
-
Would be intrested in the odd race, couldnt get to all but should be able to make the odd meet :daumenhoch:
-
C'mon guys n girls, lets take OSS National, how mental would that be mad
-
I`m up for that...big time.. :daumenhoch:
-
Yeah I'd be up for that and I know one or two others who would too. Used to race at Falkirk, Livi and Gala but never raced at Clydebank. We get a few old schoolers coming into the factory now and again so I'll put the word out. Let me know how you get on... :daumenhoch:
-
Well up for it Kenny, good shout. I'll try and give some of the Highland boys a shout. :daumenhoch:
Im going to try and make it accross to Clydebank for the meeting on Sept 2(?) if Im back off holiday.
-
yeah would be up for it as well mate, talked about it with Stella dave and Cyborg on the burner sites, but cant make it that weekend as is Connect festival but deffo the next one.
-
Apart from Clydebank, what other tracks are there in Scotland? ???
-
Nairn track is still there, which is amazing after so long, in my opinion it was the best track in Scotland bitd. :4_17_5:
Steve Fraser and a few of the lads up there are talking about getting it re-surfaced and running againg. :daumenhoch: I'll try and get an update on how its going, I am sure they would be up for an old school meet.
-
It would be great to set up a series with more than one track so it would be good if Nairn was up and running. Looking at the Britich Cycling website, there's no reference to any facilites other than Clydebank for mainstream BMX, so the Western Titans track looks like it's the only active track in Scotland.
Could have one of the series at one of the North regions meets ?
-
Im sure the track in Inverness is still there down at Bucht Park near the Ice rink, I'll check it out...
-
The 'new' Cumbernauld track is still there. The surface on the straights is suprisingly good for not being maintained for 12 years, but the surface on the berms has slid down and they're like deep sand now at the bottom of every turn. Some of the smaller jumps are a bit rounded off too. I will speak to Sean Boyle about Bathgate track - I don't know what condition it is in now, but Sean had a new electronic gate system for that track too. I'm sure Livi track will still be there but when Sean and I were there 7 years ago it was pretty poor. Everything was there but very rounded off and if you started brushing it I doubt you'd be left with much!
-
I can't believe this. This is great news. Possible tracks at Inverness, Bathgate, Cumbernauld, Nairn and Livingston.
They don't have to be in A1 condition, but just usable and safe. We obviously need permission but if you guys can use your contacts to get an idea of whether they are usable, we can approach the appropriate people.
Am I getting too excited about this? There needs to be the demand so if people can, come along to Clydebank on the 1st September. There's no point pursuing this if there's going to be more marshalls than riders!
Good Stuff ;D ;D

I am based in Edinburgh and went to MK07 and had great time meeting old schoolers and doing a bit of racing. Nothing too serious though.
A Scottish meet sounds good, I am up for it. Where is the Clydebank track exactly? I went round Livi last year and it was ok, just needs a clean up and trees cut back as they hang over the track in places. If Nairn, Barthgate and Cumbernauld are decent tracks I am up for that too.
The great weather at MK really made that event, a race meet in the Autumn might be a bit wet-wet-wet (Clydebank connection). :)
Thanks to SE-Bmxer for the pic.

-
I'll leave it for Kenny to supply the Clydebank details. Whats the Liviston track address?
How did you get your gear down to MK.
I did look a great weekend...well done to every one
-
Inverness was another ace track... :daumenhoch:
Anyone know what happened to Musselburgh track, is it still there? it was quite good and fairly close to where I now live so I might just check it out next week. I'll keep you all posted. :)
-
Paulo, drove down with all the gear in the car. Takes about 6-7 hours (driving within speed limit) but I stayed over night.
Livi track behind skatepark to the north over bridge.
Only a few mins away. Not sure about any tracks around Edinburgh. Danderhall was good BITD but sadly its gone. :'(
-
Last I heard Musselburgh had been cut in two. Can't remember if it was to make way for houses or something like that.
To find the Clydebank Track, go to Google Maps UK, type in G81 2PL. Then zoom in a bit to the right and the new track is on the corner between Onslow Road and Great Western Road.
To find Livi track, again, go to Google Maps UK, type in EH54 6QU. That is where to park for the skatepark. The track is just a short cycle up the hill to the left, as seen on the map, near the junction of Howden South Road and Howden E.
To find the Bathgate track, type in the postcode EH48 4AL. This should show Balbardie Avenue. The track is to the right, at the end of the street between Balbardie Avenue and Waverley Street.
To find the Cumbernauld track, type in G68 9AG. The track is between the arrow and the A80.
Hope this helps!
-
Anyone know if the track is still at Hawick?
-
The Livingston track was knocked down just a few months ago
never mind, there's a great skatepark just across the river
-
Thanks for the addresses Kenny. :daumenhoch:
-
Had a look at the Cumbernauld track today. Looks great. Ready to use. There's a sign there saying it belongs to the Westfield BMX Club.
Does anybody know about the club. Does it still exist?
P.
-
Here's some pics of the Cumbernauld track taken yesterday in the pooring rain. As I said it's in good nick so no reason why it couldn't be used as part of a series, but I don't know whether it's still being used by the Westfield BMX Club. There's a phone number on the sign so I'll ring it during the week.
To me it looks like a long track.
Start going into a kink left...

The track looks mint, Ive seen worse regional tracks!! Was the start gate still there?
-
The gate wasn't but the fixtures were, and they looked new! When it comes to gates, is there a standard fitting or are they all bespoke.
-
From what I have seen they are custom made to fit, but any half good fabricator will be able to do the gate, The control system is needs to be found or bought though, there not cheap :-\
-
That track looks mint, proper oldschool. Reminds me of the Warrington track were Alans had the oldschool meets :daumenhoch:
-
Im sure the track in Inverness is still there down at Bucht Park near the Ice rink, I'll check it out...
when i was working up in inverness in 2004 there was a old track just down the road near a big sports centre on Bught road
is that the one ?
if so its all there but pretty rough looking

Oh dear, looks pretty grim. On the upside it still has the start gate.............Let's nick it for Cumbernauld! :D
-
Thanks to everyone who came along to our Open Championships today, even if it was just to say hello. A few old schoolers from radbmx were there including Paul (paulo) who raced in the newschool 16+ category on his oldschool Mongoose Californian. He qualified out the semis and into the final picking up an nice shiny medal for his collection :daumenhoch: Also making an appearance was Sean Boyle who rode his tricked out Floval Flyer in the same class coming 2nd in the final. I think Sean is 39 or 40 so well done to the OM. Sean was also racing in his SE colours so the old school were very much in the house. I was too busy trying to commentate to race but I did go up for one gate in the 16+ motos. I'm obviously far too humble to mention I whipped their asses ;D
In total there were about 70 riders from 4 - 40 years old. Hopefully most of them will come along to our regular practice nights and race days but if not, then I reckon there were quite a few old schoolers there today who will be looking for a new bike pretty soon! :) I will keep you guys up to date with all race dates, practice nights and more importantly...... Scottish OLD SCHOOL Series dates!!!
-
Just to repeat what I said on another thread, could I ask all Scottish riders who wish to take part in some OS racing to PM me so I can build a list of interested parties, and make sure you all get updated on what's happening. We'll be working out some dates for autumn/winter 'Regionals' and hope to run an OS class alongside the usual age groups. I just need to get an idea of how many guys have (or can get) OS-legal bikes and are willing to take them on the track for some OS fun.
Cheers!
Here's my 4yo son Kade and my 9yo daughter Harley with their trophies and medals from the open race on 1st Sep. Kade just came off his stabilisers 4 weeks ago so he's chuffed to bits to come 2nd in his first race. Harley won her 7-9 age group for the 2nd year running (beating all the boys I might add!)

Here's the OS race bike in 'half-built' mode. Still got a few things to buy before it's ready - newschool Flite cranks, ProClass wheels (Kenny S's pc rims and new chrome Suzue hubs), stem & bars, and brake cable of course. Just need to filter off some cash each month without the wife finding out!! ;D

-
Any dates and locations been sorted for OS
races over winter in bonnie scotland yet?
Anyone :-\
-
I'm still happy to run OS races at Clydebank, I just need to confirm there's genuine interest first before deciding on dates. I know some people might not want to commit themselves in case they can't always make it, but even some indication of numbers would be helpful. I'm sure I can count on Paulo, phantom photon, Stella Dave, and Mr Rettie for some, if not all dates, but if anyone else has an OS legal bike and fancies taking part can they let me know asap? I'll discuss a series with my fellow club dudes on Saturday and hopefully hit you with some dates by the start of next week :daumenhoch:
-
I'd be up for the odd meet, work most weekend so cant make em all,
would hope the odd racer from preston area would make to trip north :daumenhoch:
-
Winter dates now added to the start of this thread :daumenhoch:
-
Nice on Kenny, I'll definately make a few of the dates. :daumenhoch:
You should put a post on BMX Talk also, I know that a few of the lads from Highland log on to that every so often.
-
BMXtalk has now been informed ;) I also want to get some race plates made up for the series, like those given out at the OSS summer races, OS Brits etc. I've knocked up a design which is at the start of this thread. Have a look and let me know what you think. Any alternative design suggestions welcome :daumenhoch:
-
I like the plate design Kenny, can you send me one down when you get them, cheers :daumenhoch:
-
Will do Tony. I haven't heard back from Martin yet, so I hope he can do them! :)
-
race plates are now 'in the works' and race fees now added to the start of this thread, so GET YOURSELF REGISTERED! :daumenhoch:
-
Scottish OSS Winter Series gets it's first sponsor courtesy of Grant from BSD. Cheers mate! :daumenhoch:
-
Kenny, well up for registering....how does the paypall thingy work :-\ or can I pay some other way?
Hows the supergoose coming on? finished it yet?
-
PM'd ya Kevin :daumenhoch:
-
Top Prize for the overall Series Winner is a brand new Dialled Bikes MX20 Frame, kindly donated by Mike at Dialled Bikes! :4_17_5: Thanks Mike, You're a star!!
-
Registered Kenny. This will be great. ;D
-
Nice plate! They gonna be for sale??
Gonna try an pop along to most of the dates with some of the boys.
-
Yes they are for sale - £10. And for that you can get yer arse up on the gate with the rest of us! ;D
-
Sent you payment Kenny. Props to you and everyone for organising this. ;)
I am looking forward to this.
-
Man this takes me back.....
I used to race in '81 & '82 at a few club races across Scotland, raced Danderhall a few times and a track somewhere around Glasgow, we lived out on the west coast, no track at all but if a race coincided with a trip to visit my grandparents in Edinburgh then I could get there. After retirement!! we moved to Inverness used to ride the track there, it looks in a bit of a mess now from looking at the pictures... :( be good to see the track and the Nairn track used again.
There used to be a few quick boys in Inverness, Mark & Henrik Bishop spring to mind, their dad ran a bike shop........
Kenny - Can't make the winter series, live too far away now, I'd love to buy a plate though and contribute... PM me if this would be OK
M.
-
Alans now onboard as well with some promised freebies :daumenhoch:
Plates will be getting ordered over the weekend. All those who haven't registered should do so now. If you plan on taking part, at any point in the series, and don't see your name on the list then please send me a PM and I will get you added. To be eligible for the plate, end of series placing and trophy you need to be registered, so the sooner the better chaps :daumenhoch:
-
Mark at Groove Racing has also promised some goodies to give away during the series :daumenhoch:
Just a note to any plate collectors out there. Our Winter Series plates can be bought simply by registering for the series. You don't have to turn up and race although we'd love it if you could! But if you're just too far away, or some other reason is stopping you taking part, just the £10 registration fee will see to it that when we receive delivery of the plates from Martin in the next couple of weeks that you get one posted to your door. Numbers 1-10 will be reserved for presentation at the end of the series but, at the moment, we have numbers 11-30 available, with more to follow depending on demand.
-
Kenny, any chance of getting number 54.. ::)? If not could I have 21.
cheers.
-
We've only got 1-30 just now so No.21 is yours mate :daumenhoch: I've just received the plates from Martin so I'll get yours in the post on Monday.
-
Race Plates have landed. Here's what they look like - Mine attached to my oldschool race bike. Looking forward to next weekend :)
Finally got my Supergoose (now a fake Pro Class) built up. Still a work-in-progress, so please excuse the crap cranks (solid black GT 3pc) and the non-ProClass wheels. These issues WILL be addressed as soon as funds permit. Can't wait to 'christen' it next weekend!!
-
looking good Kenny, love the goose, thats a cool battle bike :daumenhoch:
-
;) ;) ;)
NOT TOO FAR FROM ME
MIGHT SNEEK UP FOR LITTLE BASH
RUSS NEBMX :4_17_5:
-
Kenny, had a good read of this thread and can't see a time for the race this Sunday. ???
Will there be a start gate?
See you all on Sunday, hope weather is decent.
Props to everyone who is involved in organising this event. :daumenhoch:
Cheers
-
Sorry all. Registration & Gate Practice will kick off at 12noon and we hope to have racing starting at 1pm. No start gate, but we will be using a big elastic band stretched across the start hill, just like they used at Falkirk BITD.......Only kidding! ;D We've got a full electronic/hydraulic-ram start gate, traffic lights, "riders ready, watch the lights, beep beep beep beep" etc etc.
-
Kenny
Just realised I've not paid my fees yet!! Can I pay you on the day?
See you all on Sunday, and remember to go easy....its been a while!
Kevin
-
Cheers Kenny, an electronic gate? Does that belong to the BMX club or did you have to organise that too?
This is looking like a professional event, better make a big effort to finish high the placings.
Can't make the race on 9 Dec as I will be down in Birmingham for the RadBMX Xmas bash, so I will miss out on double points. :(
Cheers
-
Kenny, plate arrived today, looks great.....
Cheers,
M.
-
Kevin (and everyone else), yes there's no problem registering on the day. You can pick up your race plate then too. The gate system is owned by the club and cost a few grand. Hey, our track even has new tarmac berms! The club does, of course, run newschool races in the spring/summer, hence why we have the gate and tarmac berms. The berms aren't to help clipped in riders though (just to reduce track maintenance), and anyone who dares to turn up with clip pedals will be the subject of much abuse. Over the winter we tend to stop the racing so the track can recover. This winter, however, we're reliving those days when we'd race in any weather, all year round. Can anyone remember racing at Ayr through a foot of snow?? ;D
PS. Oxygen masks will be available at the finish line :D
-
Had a fab day's racing today at the 1st Round. Dave old mags and photos were brill. Stevo's Skyway is the dogs and thanks to the 2 Kenny's for setting up the day.
Let's see some more riders next week and have even more fun. :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
Guys, it was good to meet you all on Sunday. Props to everyone for organising the event and turning up on the day.
Hopefully I will get more points since Dave (winner on the day) won't be able to make it.
See you next Sunday. :daumenhoch:
-
Cheers Sean, got ma dvd today! Much appreciated dude.
-
Just looking to check who is planning on racing on 9th December (Round 3)? If you are coming along to race then can you let me know, just to give me an idea of numbers. Cheers!
-
9th December round has been cancelled and amended dates for January & February. We've added another date in February to make up for 9th December. The club is starting a series of 21 weeks of training for a local youth group, involving 2 hours of training, racing & coaching. Obviously we can't run the OS Series during this time, so the OS racing will take place right after our coaching sessions. Just means you all get your usual Sunday lie-in ;) We've also made teh series 'best 4 out of 6', just to make it fairer to those who can't always make it every week. See you all in January :daumenhoch:
-
Hi Kenny,
Is the 13th still on? What time does it all start? Is it still double points?
Kevin
-
Hi Kevin,
Yes, 3pm, and Yes! :D
Hope to see you there,
Kenny
-
Apologies to the guys who headed over to Clydebank this afternoon. The weather was appaling and the track wasn't really fit for racing. If anyone planning on taking part at any stage could PM me their mobile number I can give them a bell if there is any change of plans in the future. :daumenhoch:
-
Hey Kenny
The weather was crap yesterday but still good to have a burn around the track on the old Harry Leary. Not sure how long it will last with my 16 stone pressing down on it though, especially when I start jumping the doubles and tripples!!!! :LolLolLolLol:
Good to meet the other Kenny and Andy M though. Good bit of banter although 20 years of drinking and general abuse has fogged the memory somewhat!
I was saying that I might even consider getting a new school rig after a blast round the track on Kennys. Plenty more room for someone of my size and it felt solid as a rock. Fancy the retro quadangle....have to convince the wife first though.
Hope to catch you at the next race (if it aint raining!)
Kevin
-
are there any spring dates planned as yet so i can come along and support the entrants and riders at the Clydebank track ..
thanks in advance,
Paul.
-
I think there is Summer series planned starting in April or May.
Kenny H will post dates soon I reckon. He's one of the organisers.
Check the forum soon for info on this.
Maybe see you one of the meets.
Cheers :daumenhoch:
-
yep, thinking about starting things off again from 27th April. Not sure of any other dates yet but I'll post full details as soon as it's all sorted out. Steve, I'm just going to post your trophy (and David, Paul & Kevin's) tomorrow. I'll set a t-shirt aside for you when they arrive ;)
-
excellant news ..
thanks guys!
:daumenhoch:
much appreciated.
ill keep checking up for updates .. hope to see you there when your all competing again ..
Cheers,
Paul.
