-
That looks cool!
-
I can tell you from experience how cool that bike is because it used to be mine and I was the first one to ever build it up and race it. :daumenhoch:
Mind you the first time I rode it I fell off and shattered my wrist. ;D

Very nice Russ, now lets be seeing it in action, you came so close in the summer, perhaps this winter will be the one where you remember how to kick ass :daumenhoch:

like he wanted to know that ???
nice one russ looks a bit fast for you tho (lose the seat)
im thinking of doing a couple of races this winter as i have redone the kuwi a bit different and the old girl would like to retain her bike of the series title (which, I might add, she is still waiting for her trophey for)
-
thats it
im out of the OS racing,
that is the straw what broke the camels back for me
21 TT is not OS
nor is canti lever brakes
russ not a dig at you
but that bike is made when 86/87?
and in my eye,s 86/87 is not NOT old school
it may be an 80,s bike but it aint old school in my book
-
the last time i raced which was MK
i looked down the gate and saw 3 OS bikes out of a possible 8
what the fack is this series coming to
think i,ll race me 98 DB seeing as its got skyway tuff,s on it
-
very bling :)
-
steve that hasnt got canti's on it
its still normal .but with a pitbull on it
-
whatever rhys
it aint a caliper brake what ever way you look at it
the rate its going in the OS
could i race my 98 DB ?
i mean its got 80,s wheels/tyres on it so does that make it OS ?
the lines have been blurred
i,ve sent ratty a pm,as i said to him
and im sticking to my word
i wont be racing this winter
the lifes been sucked out of the OS as for as im concerned
i mean if we were still in the 80,s we would only use parts available
and not as now in the 00,s and use any thing bmx from the last 20+ yrs
where is the era correct army now i need them?
-
Steve your right on the old school era generally being accepted as before 85 with regards to the bikes, but racing has never had any age or era boundries, the only requirement was 1" threaded headset and caliper brakes, and that was from Alans old school series a fair while back :police:
-
Playing Devils advocate here,
I can 100% understand what Steve is saying about the bikes, a lot of peeps have intentionally modified bikes with new school parts and this is not the essence of Old School Racing, on a technicality O/S is up to 85/86 and therefore all bikes AND PARTS should be pre this era, whilst i feel that there are many that have not intentionally sold out Old School, there are peeps who have modernised too much and that pisses me off too >:(
However, the rules are clear and the bike meets the criteria.
For the record i will not be racing the Titan or any new skool stuff for Winter (for those that may feel inclined to mud sling :-\), it's the 82/83 Patterson for me, now someone sell me some mx1000's n wheels so i can build it :LolLolLolLol:
-
i have a nice set of wheels pro class rims with bulleye hub and red and blue mx 1000/ mx 900
-

They're OK for the Race Inc :daumenhoch: want Orange/Gold and white for the patterson :)
-
Steve get your self a cruiser and join us in the 40+ class, at least you will still be able to ride :daumenhoch:
-
I thought this was all cleared up peeps! :wtf: :10_2_12:
The rules are clear and simple as far as im concerned, Steve is this why we havn't seen you on the track lately mate ???
-
yes sam
thats basically why
all im trying to do is be true to myself
bill i might well join ya :daumenhoch:
-
fellow Jedi, u cannot defect to the dark side that is N/S, where's your light saber, zap the N/S buds :daumenhoch:
-
The only thing is Steve your not old enough for the 40+ :(
-
Steve, I just replied to your PM,
The rules as they stand allow any bike with 1" headset and caliper brakes, I personally felt that it would have been nice to exclude any bike not manufactured in the 1980s, this caused a stink and threatened the future of the OSS races. Remember why the OSS was formed? to allow us old farts to have a go at racing again, we didnt moan when the odd 40 year old at Braintree joined in on his nu skool Haro, its the spirit of it not the fookin rules. How anal is it gonna get?
To be honest, if one more question is raised about the rules I am ready to quit. It hurts me to say this, but life is too short to play nanny to people who have reached their 30s.
IF THE RULES DONT SUIT YOU, DONT RACE OSS
Steve, I want you to stay, and I will do anything to keep you on board, but the rules cant change again.
-
Whilst I have some sympathy with what Steve has said the fact is that some of the bigger guys who ride in the Series would at best look stupid on the short top-tubed bikes whilst the smaller (fitter) guys/gals will look just fine and will blitz the big boys. However, the rules have been drawn and provide a solid foundation with which to work in my opinion. If there's any cause for concern, it's not so much about the age of the bike but more so the age of the rider - but that's another story. It's starting to occur to me why the original Alan's Series faltered. I know others on this Forum who get rather anal about the eligibility of bikes (fortunately the main protagonist doesn't venture into this section but might if provoked) and is of the opinion that "Old School" is as much about the rider as the bike - again another story.
What we should bear in mind here, and by the way that's a lovely bike you've put together Russ, is the pleasure that the Series has brought to so many who a couple of years ago wouldn't have dreamed of venturing out onto a BMX track again!! The spin-off to the OSS is the number of riders who are now talking about entering into the Masters class and/or Cruiser classes against the latter day stars of the sport. And equally we have a number of their children entering the sport at Regional level which means we have a win-win situation as far as the clubs organising meetings are concerned. And, as if that wasn't enough, we have also seen OSS people taking a very active role within clubs which means they are now supporting the sport that gave them so much pleasure in the past and helping keep the sport alive for future generations.
There are parallels in other sports for historic and veteran racing which could be our lead and in which the silhouette is more important than the mechanics. They accept that some modern-day technology is vital to aid safety and availabilty of parts dictates use of modern alternatives.
In conclusion, please, please, please don't let's get too hung up on technicalities but rather continue being a 'support' class to give a few older riders the chance to have a whole heap of fun. Humps
PS: Ratty's post appeared whilst I was typing this (OK, I'm slow) but I'm not going to reread it all and edit because I think it stands on its own anyway. My personal thanks to Ratty for everything he's put into the OSS and long may it continue.

Once upon a time at a bmx track far far away there stood a great winter series number 1 champion who vowed to comeback after injury and challenge again .........looks like hes just a whinging champion after all........take a long hard toak and think about what your saying steve you are obviously quite happy to give up the series without realising its the Od School Boys that make it an old school series..... bikes a side.........maybe you should change your dj name to DAFT FADER
-
i agree just get on with it
i would never moan about n/sbikes in a o/s race

lol, r cruisers OK tho ;D
-
Steve I hope you continue to race with us as I find you a good crack and it's great to have you around.
On a personal level I think the rules are perfect as they are and we just need to concentrate on racing and having a bloomin' good laugh doing it.
The series started to get a bit serious at the end of the Summer series and I think we need to inject the fun back into it a little more. We all have things going on in our private lives be they new business ventures or other issues but we need to keep the race track a light hearted fun place to be with a group of mates that we enjoy racing against.
One of the main reason's I got back into racing again was seeing pictures of Humps riding round with an insane grin permanently plastered on his face. That sold the idea to me and I'm so glad it did as I've had a lot of fun over the last 3 years.
-
It's 22:08 and we're on Page 3 already. Time for bed!! Catch up on the next fourteen pages tomorrow morning at work. Goodnight. Humps

Guys by all means have a debate about the OSS but theres no need to start taking pot shots at Steve here, you have to remember that the OSS wasn`t the start of Old School racing at regionals, that started a little time before even Daggers was started, and Steve was one of the original old school racers, so if it wasn`t for him and a few others there maybe wouldn`t have been any OSS at all :police:

Tbh, its not having a go at Steve, Its the underlying debate about what an OS bike constitutes, My opinion closely reflects steves, but the OSS is as much about the riders as it is the bikes, this debate needs to be resolved so the OSS can move on.
-
tsk tsk.
-
Come on lads, it aint worth arguing about, it is ment to be FUN!!!!!! I have had some great laughs during the summer series and it wouldnt be the same if you were not about. I would hate to think you were going to give up Steve over Russ's bike. Come on mate, please have a rethink, there is always a space in my van for the trip to Hersden for the start of the winter series.
-
Anyone up for a mud wrestle to sort it :daumenhoch: Royston again :LolLolLolLol:

-
let,s have a vote on it
-
steve mate i hope this puts it all into prospective, old skool is old skool, early eighties, mid, and late,
at our age who gives a fook, surely for most guys it's about racing one last time, against old pros, beginners
and those 12 year old kids that are now 35+ and wanting a go, to race against the guys you saw in the mags of
the 80s, steve at our age it's got to be about fun,a day out a laugh and to race against RATTY ;D and beat ratty.
really, does it matter if a few parts are changed, will it make that fat old git go faster, probs not
if i was racing, for me to go faster i would give the bike to my little billy ;D that will be the fastest my bike would go ;)
see what i mean mate, have a laugh, be competetive but keep it real and just thank god i cant race again :-\
i know batty boy would be cacking it :knuppel2: steve some of us did race for teams in the 80s and as much as it
was great, you lot look to be having a lot more fun and winning races ;)
-
And you have got a winter series no. 1 to defend :daumenhoch:

You running for the RAVIN MONSTER LOONEY PARTY AGAIN Tone :idiot2: :idiot2: :LolLolLolLol:

my os race bike has new school wheels, apart from that all the parts and frame are os. If i raced the winter series i dont think having those wheels would be any advantage, so does that mean i shouldnt race?
In my opinion i think as long as frame and forks are os then you should be ok to race.
I know i havnt raced in any of the summer series so feel free to tell me shut up :-[
-
Once again the Don is the voice of reason :-* but why did you refer to Fatty, who is this new bod in OSS >:D

Matt, as brenn said, everyone who has or will race has a say, the OSS is there for anyone who wants to race a BMX bike, its not am elitist club, its a fun and action packed day for all of us!!
Oh Steve, jus found this pic, you sure your ready to give up? I mean you have now mastered 2 pedal starts, would seem a bit of a waste

as tone says, its all about having a fun day.
i know i have only raced the once so far this year at bulwell and i really enjoyed it, i cant wait to race again. :daumenhoch:
-
I think i mentioned this before that bitd normal people didn't change there bikes every year when a new model came out,so there were people racing 1982 bikes in 1987 against 1987 bikes etc
when i stopped in 1987 my frame and forks were 1984 my cranks were 1982 and a mixture of stuff new and old....the same as in 1991 people were racing 1987 bikes againts 1991 bikes so who really gives a f*ck just shut up everyone and lets keep racing every other weekend againts each other and relive our youth why we still can  and saying stuff like racing a 1998 frame and forks with old school wheels is so freakin immature....no wot i mean harry :)
-
Oh and forgot to mention.........nice bike russ and can you sort my mortgage out for me :daumenhoch:

Been off line a while and come back to find this kinda crap.
At the end of the day as much as I'd have like to have seen the bikes be limited to pre 1990 it was un-workable. So think sense has prevailed in the end with sticking with the 1" and non canti's.
At the end of the day the series is for fun and to keep it going it needs to be as accessable as possible. With gen OS parts becoming harder to find N/S (replaceble parts will have to creep in for the clas to survive & prosper. Especially with some riders (myself included) stepping up to N/S master and / or cruisers next year the OSS needs all the support it can get.
Let's make OS LOVE with my SWOLLEN BOLLOX instead of TALKNG OS BOLLOX!!!!! :LolLolLolLol:
BTW like the bike Russ you OS sell out  :LolLolLolLol: :daumenhoch:
-
Let's make OS LOVE with my SWOLLEN BOLLOX instead of TALKNG OS BOLLOX!!!!! :LolLolLolLol:
paul - you nearly made me drown in my cuppa tea!
:LolLolLolLol:
Steve, you love to stir up the hornets nest dotcha?!
I'm pretty sure you'll be there - you love it too much to stay away for too long.
However I recon it's all sorted now rules wise. (How do ya recon I felt when I was told I wasn't allowed in the last series cos I had N/S tyre on front? Went out n spent 45 quid on a new (old) one to be told it wasn't needed any more.)
So - Are cruisers allowed to ride in with the OS class now? (The Torker will want riding in a couple of months once the cast is off my poxy wrist.)
:D
-
Paul, the one rule that hasnt changed is the 20" rule, I know things have been a bit confused but Im sure we have a level that can be worked now. :daumenhoch:
-
I dont understand why your bitching about your o/s n/s bits ... poor nicholas raced 7 and under at hersden at 5 years old against kids that were on mountain bikes with gears ... now if anyone had reason to moan :(
Just all go out and have some fun like BMX is intended for and hope to see you back at the track soon Steve xxxxxx
-
well said you bmx chick ::) love you really :-*
-

Yeah queenie stop bitching about n/s bits on old school bikes ::)
-

what can i say, i just prefer an OS Ride ;) ;D

Been offline for ages. Nice bike Russ. I sort of see all points of view. But anyway, keep arguing away and I might stand a chance next time on the gate with all you ladies ragging on at each other!
