Hardly any retail outlets for good quality stuff, Please post what you know and where. I'm based in ESSEX; NE London, did have Cycleone in Waltham Abbey that I could get to and back in a lunch hour.
Now only seem to have Onlinebikes local in Buckhurst Hill, only stock a small amount of New School stuff, mainly road and MTB, but great people and can/will order stuff. :daumenhoch:
Not sure if Superbike in Ilford is still going and what they sell?. Cant think of anywhere else local.
-
We have a couple of bike shops round here, but no one has BMX race gear for sale :-\
Stick with Groove and Alans

Sounds abit sad but, I like to see and feel things before I buy, I know that there are some good deals on the net. But there is nothing like parting with cash and walking out with something.
The other thing is if something is broken or needs replacing straight away, the thought of waiting for days for a new part is depressing :'(
-
tell me what you're after, then if i have it, i can bring it to skaterham so you can look and touch before you buy... ;)
-
Do you know what Gary i think you have made me realise what i am missing. As kids we used to love going to the bike shops and looking at the stuff and nowadays its all online and wait malarky ??? I'm with you here there are not enough good BMX shops about.

Yep, forgot about them, another small shop, with good people, the only shop that offered discount too BADBMX members. Again hardly any Bits on display. Think Jimwise got his SE cruiser from there. :daumenhoch:
-
cant beat a good shop :yahoo_silent:
i owe my ability to spot a shodily made item entirely to the fact that i could touch and see parts in a shop , no computer screen can teach that . nor can it teach correct wheel building as well as all the other specialist bicycle maintanance
my old local shop was soo much more than a place to buy stuff , it was a meeting place , a heckle room , a mosh pit , a five minite walk when your axle snaps or your bars move , a shining beacon in an otherwise dreary town but most of all it was a second home :smitten:
frank had a simple set of rules , we could do anything as long as we didnt swear when normal people came in
if you were going to spend all day loafing around , you were on puncture duty
the 2nd stool was reserved for the person who had spend the most amount of time leaning against the row of tyres unless someone else went to the chip shop across the road when they naturally got priority
if you borrowed a tool , it had to be back next day
:)
not to mention franks disregard to the recomended rip off price in favour of special local prices :) , or the times when id be a fiver short and frank would let me pay a week later :)
support your local shops :daumenhoch:

I live 15 minutes walk from Alans. Living in Wigan does have one advantage - maybe you should relocate to somewhere where there's a great bmx shop :LolLolLolLol:

I dont post in this section much so firstly, hello :daumenhoch:
I have been researching the buying habits of bmx consumers recently so i know a bit about the industry issues with the web v LBS
Unfortunately, the local bike shop is being rogered by the internet. I can understand people buying low value stuff like tyres, grips, dvd's, cables etc but its a bit strange when people buy entire bikes off the web. The bmx distributors try to control the market by giving bike shops geographic regions of exclusivety but that means nothing when every one of them has a website with a slightly sharper offer, you end up with 60 businesses offering for example fit bikes.
Someone recently told me that the reason lots of people shop online for bmx is because its too big an offer to stock in a shop these days. However, when you order online from the winstanleys of this world, they just place an order with a supplier on 48 hr delivery, nobody actually stocks much, Service does seem to make the difference to most though....
Support your local bike shops, thay arent all miserable old sods, and without them the exposure of the sport will suffer regionally

I've got a good local shop www.sourcebmx.co.uk they list race gear on their site but it's not in the shop :idiot2: seventies distribution are local too :) just about the only good things in Hastings. The rest of the place is awash with pikey chav scum, winos and junkies >:(
-
Clive Mitchell cycles in Truro is a cracking shop with plenty of stock. Rad member mi16kie works there and does superb custom built wheels. Well worth a visit if you're in Cornwall.

mark and rich are 'ok', but I think their a little to laid back, we spent £3500 on new race bikes for my girls, went down to sh!tty hastings to collect them (with loads of notice given) only to find that larges amounts of the parts were not there, we had ordered all the same colours for the 3 bikes, all were supplied in different colours etc, Mark promised the missing stuff would be delivered the same week, 7 months later, had a part refund!!
they are nice lads tho...

Custom Riders is pretty close to me..............i've bought loads of stuff (including a complete bike) from them and they were top notch! :daumenhoch:
-
Yeh Rob, couldnt agree more mate. :daumenhoch:
I got my DK from there with no drama.
And when i built up my Proper and had the odd bit missing, i took it up there with me and they put the chain on for me etc, and sorted me out a top bolt and washer for my proper forks as they were not supplied with one. :-\ Which was a relief, it was the last one in the draw that he tried as all the others didnt fit. Proper forks must be an odd size or summit??
I also got Stan's little 12" Microgoose from there all good as gold.
I love it in there, its like an alladins cave for BMX peeps. And closer for you Gary than it is for me i believe?
Sean. :daumenhoch:

I've always wanted to go to Custom Riders.
I've just thought something now. Since I've been back into riding, I don't think I've been into a single bike shop. How bad is that?
Although I do go into my bedroom and lounge everyday and it feels like walking through a bike shop sometimes.
-
custom riders is cool!
-
Custom riders does look like a cool shop indeed :)
-
run by mason smith too :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
Thing that always puzzles me about CR is that whenever I've been there it hasn't been even vaguely busy. It's about an 80 mile round trip so I try to include to when I'm already in that neck of the woods.
-
same here mate! i've always been the only person in there!! but it was during the week and at about 2pm.
i think they pretty much rely on the web sales to be honest mate :-\
-
Ride in Cov is a good shop, friendly, but they don't have that big a range of accessories and parts they do, however, have loads
of complete bikes.
-
OT cycles in dartford.
