Title: 1st time on a BMX in 25 years!
Post by: dt1969 on March 06, 2009, 08:20 PM
Kept promising myself that I will do it, and kept putting it off, but had a spare day today, and sorted out a rider this morning-Aero Pro with Tuffs, and Lazerlite bars, and packed myself off to the little track at Cooksley (nr Kidderminster)-2 straights, 3 sets of whoops, 2 small table tops and 1 berm and a set of rollers (think thats what they call em) and spent 2 hours trying to do what I used to be able to do. Errrmmmm............easier said than done! Bike was totally different/or felt different to how I remember it ( could be down to the extra weight, creakier joints), but by the end was really enjoying it, couple of mountainbkers showed up (one has on old school Hutch bike he is gonna do up), then a couple of young lads on New school bikes stopped by, which made me really self conscious, and bit by bit, it came bac k-managed to jump all the whoops (not a big achievement in itself!), but more importantly thought-yeh, gonna do this again, and won't put it off either. Intestingly, had a go on one of the new school bikes, and was able to manual virtually everything without feeling the bike was gonna flip-they are a lot easier to ride, they just don't look as good! Sorry for the ramble, but really enjoyed today!

Cheers DT

Id highly recommend you getting a new school bike, you'll be flabergasted at how well the ride and handle compared to old geometry -

I would get some pics up Nick, 2 problems tho, 1st I can't stop watching your avatar, second, sneeked out when no one could see me make a twat of myself! The other thing I can't believe, is F@#K me I am sore! Played rugby for twenty years at national level, and did'nt ache like this. Brakes were great Keepitlit, breakpads I bought seperately from ebay were shite!

Gonna have to put me socks on sitting on the stairs today!

Cookley was the first place I rode after a 10 year gap, good for a few hours but then you start thinking of bigger/faster things. :)
Was a great feeling to finally nail the first straight, feeling in control :LolLolLolLol:
