As you all know, the Old School gate in the North Region is the biggest in the country, and just keeps getting bigger. In recognition of this I have proposed to our club Chairman, Ian Brookes, that we showcase the class at the next regional in 3 weeks time. As you all know, Preston Pirates love :smitten: a bit of OS action, so we're going to push the boat out and try and get as many bums on seats as possible. So far, what we're thinking of is-
-Trophies; the club recently inherited Andy Oldham's trophies from the early eighties- chuffing great big U.S ones (just ask Dubber and Bof how cool these are!, real memorabilia.), We'll be offering these down to 8th place in the A-final.
-Cash prizes. Yes, racing for a purse.....bring your A-game. So far I'll guarantee £100 split between the top 3 riders (£50, £30, £20?), but with club backing and sponsorship I think this will increase....
-An Old School enclosure, a fenced off area amongst the spectators, just for OS 'teams', where we'd love to see an OS bike display with prizes for Best in Show and Best Racebike.
Like most things, it's what you make of it. I've had a word with Dubber and Moley, and they're willing to help out and field any suggestions. If somebody would like to make a poster for it that we can stick on this site and Talk, that'd be just ticketyboo. The more riders we get from around the country the better, but please dont let them take all the prize money home.... :daumenhoch:
-

NEWS UPDATE- OLD SCHOOL GRANDS
I have had a firm ticking off from the ladies at the North Region commitee for organising this event without their permission or tabling it for discussion at the last meeting. They are not against the event in principle or structure, just the fact that I've bypassed the normal channels. I apologised for this at Crewe, and will be forwarding a letter of apology later this evening. I have not been told that we cannot carry on with the event, so it's back to business....
The one important issue we have to clear up is licences. The North Region made an announcement yesterday that everybody must have a BC silver licence for the next event at Preston. I have checked this with Ian Brookes, the Preston Chairman and he has confirmed that as from the 1st May this is the case if you want to race in one of the Expert classes, with no exceptions for 'it's my first time'. The only way around this is to race in novices, but I really don't think we want to split the OS class at this event do we? I know it's a bitch, but it looks like we're going to have to work with it.
On the good news side, the event is now top of the BMX headlines page on the BC website and I've had news from Moley that the editor of BMX World Magazine (distributed to 35 countries!) has sent a message saying that he's an Old School fan and would welcome any coverage we can send him on this event for publication. We've already got Dubber's handsome face on the BC site, and now Northern OS is going worldwide. I'm moist.
The man to beat at Preston could well be JT Smooth, and he's very kindly offered to sponsor the event to the tune of 8 very cool t-shirts for the A-finalists....Cheers JT :daumenhoch:
We're also putting up more trophies for the winner of the B-Final, C-Final, D-final and so on!
Gunslingers and hustlers coming out of the woodwork include local legend Andy Lennon (still loyal to his Burner!), and maybe Mark Huddart if he can find an OS cruiser in time...anyone got owt for about fifty quid?... Any other names in the frame?, don't forget, all sandbaggers are welcome and you can race two classes if you want 8)
I'll get some pictures of the trophies tomorrow at gates.....Hold tight.

I have heard flemdog is digging out his torker gear

Who's got a couple of good size gazebos / marquee s for the show 'n' shine bikes
and does anyone fancy nominating themselves as a judge for the bikes
could possibly do with around 3 or 4 people
Phil fruit would have been a good choice and Ruler Graham but there's no chance of them showing
How about Mr Townshend , ::)
:)
-
and does anyone fancy nominating themselves as a judge for the bikes
I will be scrutineering the 'Old School' bikes 'raced' at this event. :tickedoff:
You guys will NOT be eligable to race if there is any component pre '85 on your bike. :2funny:
These are the NEW, Old school Rules, so think again. ;)
-
PRE - 85? I'm sorted... :coolsmiley:
-
youve made the rule, no pre 85 bikes..... nice... you gonna let the mid schoolers in as well!!!

We need a dedicated Photographer!!
Someone with a good digital camera.
BMXWorld Magazine want pictures that are not shown anywhere else. Probably so they've got the rights to them but they said so that the pictures are exclusive to their magazine. Which I see the point. Why buy a mag when the content is available elsewhere!! ???
So if we can sort out a keen amateur photographer to take plenty of snaps then we can pick some choice ones that will go to BMXWorld ONLY. If I can persuade someone to take Camcorder footage, along with plenty of details of the races, riders and show and shine. Throw in some bullshit etc, etc then they should be able to contruct a decent enough story suitable for print (hopefully). Key points would be action shots of OS Races. A Big Group OS Photo. Shit like that.
BMXWorld did a piece on the Brits but it had no photos and was just print. So a bit of elbow bashing from Sandro and Al, throw in a Dubber crash or two. It should make the cover!! :LolLolLolLol:
So we need :-
Videographer
Photographer
Both to cover the racing.
I can provide the camcorder but my digital camera is shite for action shots.
-
The seatclamp is distracting me Dave.... :LolLolLolLol:
No KMC chains allowed too. :daumenhoch:
-
I know a 'superb' photographer... who works for www.nationalpictures.co.uk
He's based in London but would possibly be up for a road trip... his family live in Rotherham. I'll ask... because his Pics are really really good..!!

Yeah but would he be willing to give up his photo's. I dont think they'll pay for them and they want them to be exclusive, which means he can use them anywhere else. :(
If it was me, I could care less. I'd just be stoked to see them in a magazine!!! :)
-
Right I'm off on the Piss for 2 days.
I'm going to Sheffield to watch a couple of frames of snooker and to drink myself stupid(er)
See you all on Wednesday night!!! :daumenhoch:
-

What time you picking me up? :-*
-
Why not just ask Abi Taylor to take plenty of shots of the OS races, she's usually there anyway. Then just let Abi ping off her gallery to BMXWorld and let them choose the shots. The BC did a mailshot around the local rags about Finn last year and Abi was most helpful in this way.
Lets not get too anal about the bikes though (seeing as what Ade was riding at Crewe!), we don't want to alienate people, we want as many bums on seats as possible remember. It's only a bit of fun........isn't it?.....or will the lure of filthy lucre bring out the worst in people... (hopefully!)
-
So a bit of elbow bashing from Sandro and Al, throw in a Dubber crash or two. It should make the cover!! :LolLolLolLol:
I think Sandro's getting the hang of " Dubber crashes " himself ,
He's a natural, and 2 crashes at Crewe , he's really upped his game
Sod " Gate practise "
" Crash practice " is is the new black , this season daaaarliings :coolsmiley:
-
Abi does Fastlane.
Her Crewe pics were given to Fastlane and then she puts up the ones fastlane doesn't use.
So we can use Abi for fastlane if she's willing.
And use another photographer for BMXWorld.
If the race is for cash then they have to adhere to the rules 1" Headset and threaded Forks and Caliper mounted brakes. No canti's.
Thats a fair rule.
I have 2 spare bikes that are OS legal and there is no cut off for a date on bikes. All BMX's after 95 had canti's and 1 1/8 headsets. And most changed around 93.
If we need to we could have spare bikes doing a lap and then transferring to a bikeless rider waiting on the hill.
With 3 or maybe four gates, you could have 4 riders and 1 bike!! :LolLolLolLol:
I also want the History of Old School Racing in the UK. So if RATTY and co can give me all the details of the first races and the story behind them then I can include that to give some back story upto to where it is now and why were doing the Grands.
Right I'm off to Sheffield!!
See you Wednesday if I'm not in jail!!! :daumenhoch:
PS. Get practicing your crashes over the Pro Section tonight Dubs!!! :LolLolLolLol:
-
It's carrot on stick time! As promised, here's just some of the trophies for the Old School Grands. That kid in the middle is 6ft tall!

Hate to parp on about this, but it has been pointed out to me that it is SILVER MEMBERSHIP that is required from the 1st May, not a SILVER LICENCE, as I previously stated. This is a requirement for all classes, except Novices, and not just Old School. So you're not being picked on!
A list of all those who have applied online, but have not yet recieved their licence, will be brought on the day by the Registration Staff to avoid disappointment for all those that have left it a bit late.
-
Wow, since getting signed up for silver membership, my membership page has been updated with my position at Crewe last Sunday!
Impressive! :4_17_5:

I witnessed a certain Mr. Diggler at the trails getting his jump on.
He was talking about easy money and where it's going to be spent!!!!

I've had a word with Our Illustrious Leader (Ian Brookes), and we've got a spare gazebo at the club that you can use. Another one might come in handy if anyones got one. We managed to house three families, Bof and Egan under a £39 B+Q jobby at every national last year, so if someone can route one out of their shed that'd be grand. :daumenhoch:
-
Got one if needed :daumenhoch:

Redline has been out again guys. ;D
been told i need a bc membership though.
?????????????? :2gunsfiring_v1:
-
BC membership my box. Just say you know Ian (Moley), that'll do it. :2funny:
-
Everyone now needs a BC silver membership to get a race, it's the law from 1st May!, and it's for every class except novices. I've been told this by one or two people in the North Region because they don't want people travelling for miles and being dissapointed. Just knowing Moley used to mean something, in fact just standing within his aura used to give life a purpose.......
but apparently it now counts for jack-sh*t. The BC has reduced him to a shadow of his former self, a hollow shell, a number.

After my superb 'C' Final win at Crewe, I'm glad the BCF have decided to stop these people hanging off my coat tails.
Get a Silver BCF Membership you stingy fooks!!! :D

numbers will drop now youve got to pay 36 + quid to race.
prob go down the trails instead. :)
not arsed about the prize money.was going to do a few anyway.
-
Don't let the BCF membership thing put you off.
You'll need it for any race from now and once you've done one race - you will defo do more and more.
I know it's an expense but divi it up across a few races then divide it again by the number of belly laughs you'll have - it'll end up pennies ;D

-
£36 is to race at any regional!!
Everyone is in the same boat!
Race at MK09. That'll be cheaper!! :daumenhoch:
-
Cant make it now..... :'( Sorry Guys... Next time
-
No worries Crooch!!
We'll try and make it down your way for a spin!! :daumenhoch:
I think the £36 might catch a few people out.
But they said at the beginning of the Summer Series that after 2 races or 1st May that you had to have a Silver Membership to race a regional.
Its worth it!!
I enjoy my racing...................if you can all it that!!!! :D
-
Plus £36.00 is nothing compared with how much it costs to get an OS bike back up and running!
-
Plus £36.00 is nothing compared with how much it costs to get an OS bike back up and running!
Aint that the truth!! :(
-
I can understand how much bikes cost. I ve got loads myself. I ve have had a BC bronze membership for numerous years has have raced on and off for years. It just annoys me that if someone want s to get back into the sport or have a dabble now and then. That you can't because of stupid rules. What was wrong with bronze membership in the first place. This allowed you to race the odd regional and Brits. If every one said there not paying the extra dosh for racing then the BC would have to look into it.
As there would be noone racing.
Rant over. Cheers guys.
-
Could you just race Regionals on a Bronze or did you need a Racing license as well?
-
As I understood it if you've never joined before or your membership has lapsed for two years...........don't you get a discount and it only costs £20.50 :-\
-
I dont know Pete!!
I think there is some discount scheme.
Mines renewed from last year!!
-
Its only what I read on my clubs website (bullwell) when I clicked the link to the BC application form.........but hey what do :uglystupid2:
I know didnt even understand what a sandbagger was and that its an insult....not "a bit of banter" comment ???
-
Well how much did you pay for your Membership?
-
TBH I don't know.................as with most things "official" the wife did it.......never ever trust me with any documentation...or I'll lose it or I'll forget about it :uglystupid2:
I told her I was a member of Bullwell (which she sorted out) and said they'll be able to help you.....well she's got to earn her keep somehow

What's the deal with camping at the grands? - is there gonna be any facitilies - the Titans are swithering on hotel & nominated driver or camping/earplugs/six pack (reebs) - I think there's gonna be at least 5 of us coming down from Scotland, maybees only 3 racing after the triples at Clydebank claimed another victim/ego (mine) today. It's amazing that after 3 weeks back in the saddle you think you're invincible!?! - wife has recommended a BMX hamster ball
-
Despite the fact that Prestons next to a big field, there's no camping on site. I'm sure you'll find something pretty close though if you have a look on t'net. You might be better off googling one of your usual Premier Inn type hotels though. Moleys usually pretty good with this sort of thing- any ideas Ian?. Thanks for making the effort coming down from Scotland- the cash purse will be in English notes though!

I haven't a clue what they are called so you'll have to do some research to if they have any rooms!! :(

Many many thanks to Jamie Hall once again for the brain child behind making this regional meet a GRAND regional meet
I suggested one Tuesday night that I'd bring a couple of my show ponies to the regional this time to show people who hadn't seen owt that old for years
and the next thing you know he's only gone and decided to donate cash and the trophies to create a big O/S flavour to the regional

Many many thanks to Jamie Hall once again for the brain child behind making this regional meet a GRAND regional meet
I suggested one Tuesday night that I'd bring a couple of my show ponies to the regional this time to show people who hadn't seen owt that old for years
and the next thing you know he's only gone and decided to donate cash and the trophies to create a big O/S flavour to the regional
and probably adding the catalyst to attracting 200+ people along to Preston track last Sunday .

Hey, I'm just an average guy trying to make a difference out there......
as I said at the beginning it's what you make of it, so it was everyone who turned up who made the event. I hope it's bigger and better next year. What surprised me was the quantity and quality of bikes for the show and shine- we weren't expecting it, and a lot of people at Preston were really impressed by this. Bof and Flem did their best with the judging, but Bof's method of 'eeny meeny miiny mo...', was a little unfair. Maybe more categories next year, and a judge who doesn't wear turquaz plimsolls- you just can't trust a guy like that. Any other ideas are welcome, but we've got twelve months so no rush!

Keep those trophies under lock and key Jamie ( take em to your works unit) ,there's still some very very nice ones left
get em outta that container they'll just get ruined in there :(
besides Diggler said you're not an average guy,,,,
much shorter in length but thicker in girth
buttplug-esque :coolsmiley:

Yep!! Well done Jamie!!
It just goes to show that its never too late to make something of your life!!! :D
More cover for the S & S next year! A few show'ers didn't want to get their bikes wet!!
Especially Rollin72 with a suede seat. I bet he rubs his naked dangly's on it when the missus aint about!! :-\
A great meet!!
Crewe is having an OS gate at its Special event so maybe a few OS'ers will go to that and camp out too!! :LolLolLolLol:

The suede seat affair sounds like something Phil Critchlow would tell me he does :D
-
was a great event dudes, all should be well pleased with themselves :daumenhoch:
as a result of this, i think h/pool will be positioning the burger van 3.75" closer to the track than usual in acknowledgement to the oldschoolers :daumenhoch: now thats "equality and diversity" at work ;D

And to think some people dont even believe in the evolution theory. ;D

What the Unknown bikes evolution theory ?
Where a whole bunch of people gang up and slate a person for his ,,,,,,

That seat did look a tad bald in a couple of really small areas, like 5p sized corn cicles....mad
