Title: The Fruit Salad Build
Post by: Chilli Rinse on September 26, 2021, 02:03 PM
I bought this cool French full CrMo frame set bundle on eBay in January. It arrived in og survivor condition from Den Haag in the Netherlands. Nice og chrome, faded og paint, og decals. The bundle consisted of, Frame, Forks, Bars, x 6 Spinner Pegs & Rotor Cup.

1987 Star Way Freemaster Formule Pro
(The Fruit Salad Build)

Star Way - 1987 Freemaster Frame, Forks & Bars.
Soapy wash on the paint, 00 wire wool rub on the chrome, then buffed.
Tioga - New Bear Trap 2 Headset.
I had trouble with the 80's headsets I had so bought new.
Dia-Compe - Nos Tech 4  Levers - 87.
Nice find with the adjusters.
ACS - Used Pro Rotor, New Lower Cable & Nos Clarks Power Glide Outer.
Bought for the cup on another build. Stripped and cleaned.
ODI - Used Tec-7 Grips.
These were filthy, came up well but still have stains.
ACS - Used 55 Slant Stem.
I was contacted by the seller of the frame set, a deal was struck, this build needed this stem as it was stock on this bike.
Dia-Compe - Nos 750 Rear Brake, OG Straddle & Saddle - 83.
I had a Weinmann but then this popped up for sale.
Dia-Compe - Used 883 Nippon Front - 85 & 87 Arms.
Stripped, cleaned and added a better spring and nylon spacer.
Kool Stop - New Continental Brake Blocks.
Another eBay bargain.
Weinmann - Nos Freestyle Semi Auto Adjuster.
Another eBay bargain from the US.
Unbranded -Used Cables.
These came on my Peugeot Free Form and were the only cables I had that ran through the Potts mod stem bolt.
Mongoose - Used Pro Class Series V 48s Wheels - 87.
I had these in the cave.
Cheng Shin - Nos Freestyle Tyres.
Discolored skin wall but no cracked rubber.
Suntour - Used BMX Freewheel 16t.
This came with the Pro Class wheel set.
Tange - Used BB220 Bottom Bracket.
Another eBay bargain that needed a vinegar bath.
Sugino - Used 175x24 CrMo Crank.
Another eBay bargain, it was a gamble as they had been returned to the seller because of bad threads. They were fine, result.
Peregrine - Used 42T CD Sprocket.
White spirit degrease and soapy wash on this.
Izumi  - Used Chain.
Taken off of my Sjappi, cleaned and oiled.
Victor - Used VP 626 Pedals.
Another purchase off of the frame set seller. These were a must too as they were stock on this bike. Stripped, cleaned and fresh grease.
Viscount Yo! - Used  Rock n Roll Seat & Guts - 87.
Another must for this build as it was stock on the bike.
Peregrine - Used Seat Clamp - 87.
Another purchase from the frame set seller. I think this was stock too.
Nitto - Nos 22.6 Seat Post - 83.
This was the only 22.6 post I could find and it works for me.
Spinner - Used Pegs.
The rears came in the frame set bundle and the fronts popped up on eBay.
Unbranded- Eyeball Valve Caps.
I had 2 spare so why not.

I was lucky enough to find a copy of Bicross Magazine #60 from September 1987, which has a test review of the bike  :coolsmiley:
It's in French so I will need to translate it  fistblump
