I swear turning 50 sets off a trigger in your body. Had Covid and then flu in a row from October til past Christmas, and now I am suffering from an infection. I won't go into it, because it will make you whince but yeah. I am not even capable of working on anything right now, let alone buying anything or riding. Fookin sucks

Today's race was rained off, so I did the only sensible thing and went to a skate park instead!  I actually went there for the first time this week, taking the Quamen as that's the nearest thing I've got to a street/park bike (kind of). Really enjoyed ripping around the ramps, dropping in the smaller quarter pipes and hitting a hip jump. This is definitely a welcome addition to my race training as it's a bloody good workout, is going to improve my general bike skills and perhaps most importantly, is only a 15-minute drive from home. If I really get into it, I may have to pick up a proper park bike but for the time being, the Quamen will do the trick, even if the rider can't.  Next race is next weekend, back up in Niigata, so hopefully the weather's okay for that.

Wow I actually bought something.  I was gutted they had none in chrome. Searched for over an hour. If you are not familiar with the shape....  Basically on my S&M NBD I ran short of cash toward the end for cranks. I bought some very battered Demolition Medial cranks which got a knock after I painted them (so a big chip in the paint). There is also a big dent in the back of one of the pedal bosses. So I am going to paint those yellow and I ordered these from Del.  And when I say paint I mean properly. As in not acrylic. I will paint them with this.  And then give them 2k clear. I have a load of parts to paint green, so I ordered plenty of clear. I will just shoot the clear at the same time.

The weather played ball for the season opener at Joetsu on Sunday. The over 30s class was by far the most popular with 13 riders signed up, mostly dads and friends of dads. We were therefore divided into two racks, with the top four from each going through to the main. I went 3/2/3 in my rack, making it through from my side of the draw. I drew lane 7 for the main and got out okay but had a bit of a moment with another rider over the first set of rollers, lost a couple of places trying not to crash and ended up finishing 7th. A bit disappointing as I should have (and felt that I deserved to have) been higher but at least I didn’t crash, so that’s something! I was also quite pleased with my gates, so that’s another positive to take away. Next race should be on the 18th at Kishiwada in Osaka. Hopefully I can get some more track time in before then.

Hang in there mate!  Picked up that Nightwolf seat yesterday and it’s flippin’ cool!  I may run it on the Redline, so have been keeping an eye out for a black, railed post in the not so common (for BMX frames) 26.8mm. After leaving the bike shop, I checked out a secondhand store which sells bike parts and found a Thomson post in… yes, 26.8mm!! It has a few marks, of course but is straight and uncut!! Perhaps more importantly, it was half the price of used ones currently for sale online. Needless to say I bought it pdq!!

Lightly renovated a series 2 Mag Burner a couple of years ago with my now 17yr old son, turns out his wee sister now wants a BMX…
We’ve got a MacNeil frame and forks, so here I go again! Lots of inspiration sought…

Odyssey have recently re-released their "Nightwolf" seats in black and grey, so I gave in to the temptation and have ordered a railed one.
