Hi guys, I'm new on here but not new to bmx, I had a really nice dp firebird freestyler gen 1 back in the early 80's. The question or rather peoples opinion I want is this;
I have decided that I want to build up an old school bmx & don't know whether to buy an 80's frame & forks or go for something like a repro pk ripper. The reason I ask is because I don't just want to build a bike to pin on the wall, I actually want to ride it & maybe visit a few skate parks. Would I run the risk of breaking an original 80's frame or should I go for a repro? your opinions are greatly appreciated.

get an old one it'll retain it s value better and its a much cooler as well , ripper wise get a later one if you want a stronger frame sort of after 85

Cheers mate, I've been looking at trying to get hold of a skyway streetbeat or streetstyler but they are getting very few & far between. Quite like some of the 80's GT performers as well.

i wouldnt get an original ripper and take it to a skatepark!!they werent that strong as it was an aluminium race frame(in most cases) and pretty likely to break if subjected to skatepark abuse from an adult i would say,they used to break even when we were kids when used for freestyle!and as far as i can see original rippers are in the upper price bracket for frames and forks!
