Coppull Directions

From North of Wigan (Down the M6)

Turn off at Charnock Richard Services.

At the services on the South Bound follow the exit past an old pre-fab building and turn off to the left and follow it out onto the road which leads to the bridge over the motorway (it leads to the hotel which is on the north bound Services).  DO NOT FOLLOW the exit back onto the motorway.  THAT WOULD BE BAD!!!!!      If the service exit is blocked then get back onto the motorway and get off at the next exit and follow the other directions......just make sure you go around the roundabout so your on the northbound side.

When you hit the road which goes over the motorway (Mill Lane) turn Left.  At the end of this road is a little roundabout.   Turn Right at the roundabout and stay on this road A49 (Preston Road) and straight over a mini roundabouts until you see a big yellow pub called the Alison Arms (Postcode PR7 5DU) on the left.  The lane which leads to the track is directly opposite this.  Go down this lane past a small prefab building on the right and straight after the Football/rugby pitch (on the right hand side) is a potholed track leading to the Track (you should be able to see the Start Hill on the right past 2 Rugby/Football Pitches).  Its approx 1.5 miles from the services so ignore any pubs you see before 1.5 miles.

Do not be tempted to park in the Rugby/Football pitches Car Park as its usually full and they might get arsey.  Carry on down the lane and find the track leading to the BMX Track!!!

I would say that it is the easiest way because its all motorway driving which is quick apart from the 1.5 mile from the services to the track.

From South of Wigan (Oop the M6)

Driving directions to Chisnall Ln (BMX Track is along a dirt road just past the Rugby pitches on the Right)
2.7 mi – about 8 mins

Exit M6 Junction 27 and turn left onto the A5209/Crow Orchard Rd  (followed straight after by a right, dont miss it!!)

1. Head northwest on A5209/Crow Orchard Rd toward Back Ln 371 ft
2. Turn right at B5250/Mossy Lea Rd 0.3 mi
3. Turn right at Boundary Ln 0.2 mi
4. Boundary Ln turns right and becomes Pepper Ln 0.8 mi
5. Turn left at A49/Preston Rd 1.1 mi
6. Turn left at Chisnall Ln 0.2 mi  (Opposite the Alison Arms Pub)
7. Carry along the lane past the Rugby Club house on the right and take the next Right which leads to the Track,  Its a bit bumpy!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=53.589722,-2.695684&daddr=Chisnall+Ln&geocode=%3BFRgKMgMdmiDX_w&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=17&sll=53.589779,-2.694429&sspn=0.002999,0.006866&ie=UTF8&ll=53.611032,-2.67863&spn=0.023983,0.054932&t=h&z=14

Afterwards

After Racing do not use Charnock Richards Services as a short cut to get back on the M6 going North.   Its has had the barriers up the last few times I have used it.   So drop down to M6 Junction 27

Driving directions to M6 Junction 27 Roundabout (North and Southbound)
2.7 mi – about 8 mins

1. Head east on Chisnall Ln toward A49/Preston Rd 0.2 mi
2. Turn right at A49/Preston Rd 1.1 mi
3. Turn right at Pepper Ln 0.8 mi
4. Pepper Ln turns left and becomes Boundary Ln 0.2 mi
5. Turn left at B5250/Mossy Lea Rd 0.3 mi
6. Turn left at A5209/Crow Orchard Rd
7.  Go around the roundabout 50 times until you decide to go North or South. Then get on the M6 you dumbass!!

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Chisnall+Ln&daddr=53.590085,-2.695663&geocode=FRgKMgMdmiDX_w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=16&sll=53.58969,-2.691972&sspn=0.005999,0.013733&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16

Its the North Region Championships so come on lads get ya names down!!!!

You do NOT need a Silver BCF Membership to race at Coppull.   It is not a summer regional.   Its a club race.............but I'll check on it

RADBMX ID, Number Plate and Weapon of OS Destruction Please.

REMEMBER!!!   OS Racing is all about fun and trying to stay on the bike.  So all you newbies out there who want to have a dabble then dont wait and dont worry.  We're a great bunch of lads.  Whatever physical condition your in or skills your lacking, you'll still be appreciated.  Its all about the CRAIC!!  :daumenhoch:

If any Midlands, Southern or Scottish OS Riders fancy a trip up/down to sunny Coppull then you'll be more than welcome but prepare for a good ass whupping!!   ;D

Full Face Helmet, Long pants and long sleeve jersey and Gloves are minimum requirements.   I suggest Shin/Kneepads and Elbow pads.  Body Armour wouldn't go a miss either!!  ;)

Thank you!!!

OK Chaps, this is just an idea (or a discussion point).

There are probably a few of us who have OS Illegal mid-school bikes who would like to give them a proper ride out.

As this is a one-off race how about a brake-lug and 1 1/8" amnesty for all pre-2000 bikes?

I wonder if we could attract a few new racers with this too? Over the last year or two there seems to have been a sharp increase in the amount of mid-schoolness on RAD. An Old/Mid race might bring a few more folks into the fold.

Any thoughts?

(For the record I fancy racing my 1999 Redline Cruiser)

For a winter series I dont think it would matter much.    Maybe even allow NS.

Just an open class for oldies who dont want to race Master.

And when Rnd 1 of the summer commences revert to OS Legal bikes only.    It would give a lot of NS riders the chance to race and get an OS legal ride built in time for the summer.     It would be good to have working brakes too.

I think for the North Region Champs then it has to be OS Legal Only.    You want to be the best Northern OS'er and not pipped by a NS ride.

As much as I think BC should have an "Oldies who don't want to race masters class" for those of us who weren't sponsored riders in the 80's/90's I was thinking strictly pre-2000 on this point. This would arguably be a reflection of RAD-types and a legitiment differentiation between Masters/Vetrans and an Old/Mid Class.

Interesting idea James. If it was opened up to include Mid then I think people would need fair warning as they might be about to spend loads on an 80s racebike to meet current spec.  To be fair there is quite a range of abilities and speeds within the current 30+ racing class, and there's nowt stopping you doing okay in Masters on an OS bike.

1 1/8 and canti would mean you might be riding a pre 2000 frame but all your components could be new school giving an advantage as much as riding a new school frame perhaps. Although I would be much happier riding my 1996 diamondback reactor to my 1990 TNT.

Last time I did this (in June) there were big signs saying this shortcut was going to be closed from July. Does anyone know any different?

I dont see the point in riding Aheadset and cantis in an OS Class.

You either keep it OS or race Master/Vets with whatever bike ya want OS, Mid or New.

The Northern Champs should be OS Only so that we can see who it the best OS rider in a one off meet.    Northern OS Champ as opposed to Northern OS Series Champ who could actually make most of the meets.   And if it includes sandbaggers then so what.  We've never stop them before and the more the merrier in my book!!

But the winter series is only club races..........thats it.   I dont think the clubs will mind what we race.   They'll be happy to take the money and another class aint gonna add much time to a club race in the middle of winter.

Mid school is just too NS for my liking.    We are already riding early 90's OS legal bikes anyway so why add a few cantis and aheadsets into the mix?

I wish I hadn't mentioned it now.

I'll probably be seen as a visionary when the accepted definition of Old School evolves and the rider count for Old School racing is too low to run the class.

I'll start my own race series - "the Britsh Union of Militant Midschool Encompassing Race Series", or BUMMERS for short  :D Who fanices a go?
