Evening radsters ,

Was hoping you would be able to shed some light and what model this panda is , I think it's a mx3 but would like peace of mind.

Cheers Stiidds, I've just bought it so will take pics when it arrives. It was the crazy seat tube angle that did it for me.

Early MX by the looks of it, I'm sure the Charger 2 is the same frame but has an additional brace at the seat mast. You'll definitely not want the bars forward on this one  ;)

Ash, could it be a PX1 frame or did the PX frames have a separate seat clamp whereas the MX frames had the welded on seat clamp?

This one definitely has the welded/attached clamp.

I've got a few more pics...screw in BB cups which I think makes it early.

Pics aren't great but it's a bit more info.

It looks like an early PX-1 to me Jay.Possibly 75'-77'.Though can't makeout from pics if there's a gusset round the seat tube from TT to rear stays. These had the metal Panda badges on the headtube. There's a few on the museum.
Nice score!:daumenhoch:

Cheers Mike , I stumbled on it whilst looking for parts for the thruster. Cost me £50 for the frame plus shipping etc.

I kind of have a rough idea of what I would like to do although I  always change my mind at the last minute

Thinking box bars, Ashtabula forks, hunt wilde grips, goose neck stem...not sure about colour as will have to wait until it arrives so that we can work out what it is 100%(or as close as)

I always associate Panda's with either electric blue or they did a really stunning metallic burnt orange colour.

Well after a bit of digging and serial matching you guys were right it's a 75 px1. Not sure what the crack is with the missing gusset round the seat tube , maybe welded back together at some point or that's just how they put it out. I have this picture of another px1 , which has a different type to all the others I have seen(in the panda range)

Doesn't look as good close up but getting it sprayed black would look cool

Yeah Orange or black would be cool Jay but you might want to send it Phil Sawzall's way first to sort a gusset round the seat tube as that re-weld looks a bit dodgy. :daumenhoch:

Cheers Mike, I have been pondering over the gusset. It's strange because the paint is the same all over and matches another px1 I've seen and there is no sign of it ever having a gusset on the top tube. There is a mark underneath the seat clamp where it should have been but this is not reflected on the other side?

It could have been filed down. The angle of the clamp looks a bit off due to the weld build up underneath. Also looks like the rear top stays must have snapped off &
have been welded back on at some point.Panda weren't noted for neat welding but haven't seen any that bad so it deffo looks like a quick fix as was common w/a lot of rides this early.Dad's having a go at welding to fix their kids bikes after being thrashed at the track!  :LolLolLolLol:
