BOTY 2006 - Vote Results
« on: December 05, 2006, 06:22 PM »
Right start entering your bikes for Bike of the year 2006, we want a photo and a breakdown of the parts, but a photo will do if your lazy.

What we`ll do this year is get all the bikes entered, doesn`t matter what it is as there can only be one winner, and we`ll vote on them and the bike with the most votes in its make, haro for instance, will go forward to the final round, and then we can vote on the best of the finalists.

You have untill the 16th December to get your bikes entered, then we`ll start the voting, one bike per member only though, and before you start to get your wife to sign up so you can enter another bike remember that it would split the votes between the bikes and you may end up getting nothing  :yahoo_silent:

Good luck  :daumenhoch:

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Here's my November 1985 Skyway Streetbeat, 100% NOS and sadly never seen concrete, it’s lived on carpet its whole life.
The frame is unmarked with no build up scars and is finished in what I believe is the best streetbeat colour of all, the classic green with all the correct factory supplied stickers. Furthermore it has bright white Skyway Tuff 2's and is wearing matching green Haro freestyle tyres, still with the factory knobbles. This is the wheel and tyre combo I lusted after as a kid, also check out the black and white period dice dust caps. The bike has a Skyway turbo disc attached to the immaculate one piece crank and carries a white zebra chain on a super clean chrome shimano freewheel. My favourite part of the drive train is the NOS Sharpe bottom bracket cover, I searched for an age but finally got one, was not sure whether to go for the white or green, but I reckon white works.
All white Dia compe MX brake callipers and levers with the correct Dia compe cables in white, stopping taken care of via green Skyway Tuff pads, not that it’s ever needed to stop! Its has a chequered flag Elina UL seat post attached to a white Elina UL ultra light saddle with a black and aluminium tioga seat clamp.
The handle bars are in matching green and are Skyway EZ's with the original graphics applied, white AME grips and a jet black stem that is usually covered by a Skyway Tuff stem pad leading to a Shimano head set in unmarked chrome.
Future plans for the bike may include an NOS period three piece crank, but not sure as they always seemed to be the preserve of the racing guys back in the day and I always remember the streetbeat with the one piece.
I still ride BMX regularly and so badly want to ride the streetbeat but know that its NOS status will lost forever if I do so for now it graces the back bedroom as an object of fascination to visitors and friends. Cheers for looking....
