High or low seats ?
« on: April 04, 2008, 10:23 AM »
I was chatting to rob (pickle) about this this am, i slammed mine down , then thought, it will be a nightmare on the way to the trails and just general riding about, over the years my seats got lower and lower, so ive decided to do my own thing and flag pole it  ;)  i know its not the done thing, but im 37 now with a shot back, this way i can also ride to work and back with no grief  :daumenhoch:  and i mainly ride trails and tracks, with a very little amount of parks, plus i have another seat and short post for that.So how do you like it long or short   ;) im going to do a custom pad in the end, yep im no fashion victom  :LolLolLolLol:

Surely for the General you need to track down a Rebel Racing pad.

Oh and it's seats up for me. Even more than those 2 are.

That pad is funny. I didnt really give frame pads much thought. On my last bike i had didnt have one on cos the tt was quite large but I got this LAF just as I started to build up some old S&Ms so pads were on my mind. Now, when I look at older photos and Video footage of me Im always running an S&M frame pad. I have had one of those things on for more than 15 years now!
(and yes, I do still have the very first frame pad off my very first dirtbike! haha)

I just think you have to set up your bike for how its used, not just how it looks, your bike looks great alex, and as i have to ride to the trails and parks, a low seats a pain, plus i love the look of a high seat and pads , i noticed alex in all the old pics you have a frame pad, keep it real mate    :4_17_5:

i used to and still do on the dirtbike have them at about 3-4" of exposed post depending on seattube length and depth of seat

on the standard its slammed

years ago before i moved we would have to ride miles to ride anywhere so i had to have the seat in a position  where i could just about pedal and i had a brake for the hills

but as the standard is a toy and not transport its slammed to keep it out of the way and so it doesnt jab me in the back of the knee  >:(

after all , if you want to sit down and pedal get a road bike  ::)

i guess mine started to get lower when i realised i only ever sat down when i wasnt pedalling  ;D

what i didnt understand was why did so many people have the seat at such an angle  :-\ loads of my mates did it and sure its fine for no hand stuff but whenever i sat on them i slipped off the back  ;D

I still pinch the seat with my knees for loads of stuff. Apart from no-handers cos I cant do them, and barspins cos I dont really ever do them.

as i mainly ride flat nowadays i need the seat up. i would have it higher but the post is already near its safety mark.

2 other riders in south wales  run huge posts. you can tell they are flatland bikers.

Wear your seat posts with pride :D

I've always set mine up to be the most comfortable (angle) to sit on (that's what they're for!?) then make minor adjustments on the height to suit my riding :daumenhoch:
IMO slammed seats look soo gay :-*

on every single bike I own the seat is set to just touch the inside mof my left knee when the pedals are level, this comes from my gate stance and I cannot ride a bike if its any different as I tend to use  my knees to steer/throw the bike around  :idiot2:

Hope this makes sense?

 :) DINGO :)

great range of riders and styles answers  :)

shows it comes down to preference and more imporantly what the riding is

i think flatland would look damn silly with posts any lower than those  :)

Does anyone else struggle to get a post long enough?
The long one I know of is the Odyssey one (apart from Thompson, but they cost too much!)
