me and some other oldies were talking about old tracks a couple of weeks ago, anyway i just found this in the loft

Great scan.

There are less jumps on that track than you get on some straights nowadays.

pinched this from snav69's link, it show kong better. there may be less jumps but kong was a table top the size of a start hill with a set of doubles on top !!!!! (8&9)

or the softies could take the easy route to the sides

When I raced at Three Sisters in the very early days, the track didn't have the split in it at Kong, it just had Kong if I remember rightly. I have an old video of racing there, must dig it out...

Did anyone race at Chorley here, the track on John Lee's family quarry? Would love to see that location from Google Earth now, I bet it's completely gone, as in, dug away with the rest of the quarry.

same here, there was no soft option.....hit it hard or it did the same to you, end of. those were the days. vivid memories of having trouble with clearing kong all day, making the final (no A or B finals) then looping out on the doubles in the 2nd straight while in the lead

'Ere ya go, a clip of Three Sisters in the early days, about 81ish I think. Blimey it was that flat in places, I could sit down and pedal.

I was about 11 or 12 on this vid. It's mostly of my brother, Dave Westwell.

I do have quite a bit of footage actually

I really must get it uploaded. We had it transferred to DVD from cine, they didn't do a very good job so would like it done again if possible.

Btw, Godfrey (who Alan Woods shouts "Go, Godfrey, go" in the vid) is Godfrey Burke and I believe he races 40+ cruiser for Preston Pirates nowadays.

Hi louise, yeh it is andy parr, Godfrey doesnt race much but he does gate practice at preston and coppull, i started racing again at the start of 2007 but I keep breaking bones,

, might be racing manchester40+ this weekend I'll see how i feel $:-\$ . Not seen David for a while its about time he got a bike

Tracks were more about pedalling than jumping then.

All I remember about Kong is you had to pedal right up to the lip to have a hope of clearing it and then when you did jump you sort of stalled in the air above the landing and just thumped down. Good track to race on though

i had 185 mm flight cranks and a gearing of 45/16 at three sisters because it was such a long track where, as you say you did a lot more pedalling.
remember going there for one race and coming back to London with only bits of a bike as Debbie Scott-Webb was inbetween sponsors and she sweet talked me into loaning her my ripper, took me months to get it back, luckerly i had another bike at the time LOL
