Forum Karma Feature

RADsters,

I am a member of an online gaming clan (see Sig); we have played the CoD series on PC since CoD 1 in 2003. We have our own Website and Forums, and our Forum engine allows you to "Applaud" or "Smite" people.

Effectively you can thank someone for helping you out, or the opposite; the result is a "Karma" Rating which shows the number of +s and -s you have received. I suspect that you can change the language used in the engine so that it does not have to be "Karma", "Applaude" and "Smite", given that I have seen similar elsewhere but with a different theme to the diction.

Given what a helpful bunch you lot are, I have been disappointed a few times now that I could not give people + points on their Karma.  :'(

The idea is not to promote any sort of competition; it's just a nice way to say "thank you" and a fun way to say "stop taking the piss out of me"!  :D

Anyways, I joust thought I would mention it as an idea for consideration.  ;)

Cheers,

Clean.  :coolsmiley:

Nope it`s a bad idea on here, some people end up on -100  :LolLolLolLol:
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

I can see what you mean Bill, but if each feedback had a one line narrative explaining the reason it could be possible to prevent any misuse?  :daumenhoch:

The way this feature works on other forums, you just state "+1 Karma" or "-1 Karma" at the end of your post; the reason for the Karma is normally totally obviously from the post and it's precedent.  ;)

But, Griff, mate................. we could plus 6000 each other for being in the know! ;)

Seriously, you can only add 1 Rep at a time, so the -400 would take for ever.

i'm sure karma ratings used to be on rad a few years ago and stopped around 2006, mis-use?

think there was a post about it at the time and was replaced by stars, could be wrong, need to find original thread.

Im a mod on a large board of dubious content and we added the karma function, was the worst thing we ever did, within hours the admin were at minus stupid amounts, people were bitching everywhere about it.

We then had it recoded so you can only give good karma, and that was the best thing we ever did, now users can see exactly how good / reliable each member is by their karma rating,

Don't want to be a killjoy mate but I would rather have the SEARCH feature back working than adding anything else to the site  ::)

You only realise how much you miss something when it's taken away or doesn't work  :'(

On the karma feature, it is available, just switched off. As mentioned above it was treated as a bit of a joke before, doesn't get my vote for a reprieve ....
