crusier gearing question

<< < (2/2)

James Nada:
Using 44/16 on a 20" as a starting point the nearest gearing for a 24" is 39/17 (a little bit harder) or 41/18 (a little bit easier).

Using 43/16 on a 20" as a starting point the nearest gearing for a 24" is 38/17 (a little bit harder) or 40/18 (a little bit easier).

Running 43/16 on a cruiser is equivalent to running about 51/16 on a 20" - thats extremly hard gearing.

If you want to run 16T on the back of a cruiser and get the equivalent to 44/16 on a 20", you need either a 36 (a little bit easier) or a 37 (a little bit harder).

I hope that make sense  :daumenhoch:

Dark Diggler:
I ran 34/15 on mine after trying 37/16 then 36/16, I found 34/15 was quick acceleration but still enough meat for the big jumps.

Jon The Bassist:
41/18 used to be standard, as James said it feels a tiny bit easier than 44/16 on a 20" but spins nicely and was what I used exclusively bitd once I'd got past about 14 years old.
39/17 is closest but is more of a New School gearing.

bmx xxx:
just found a shimano 17 tooth freewheel.
so will source a new chainwheel.
cheers for your helps

58 delray:
i've tried 41/18 and 42/18 and find the latter works best for me (42/18)  :daumenhoch:
