Thinking of getting a new school rider
« on: March 16, 2012, 12:24 PM »
I'm seriously thinking of buying a used new school bike to ride, perhaps even for the London rides. I've seen a few bikes and just wanted to find out what you thought?

Haro 200.1
Haro F1
Haro ZX
Subrosa Tiro
GT Slammer

I quite like the look of the Subrosa though, its all black but has a few coloured parts, what are they like? Are they light?

Also the GT Slammer didn't look too bad.

Ain't looking to spend a fortune hence looking for a used one but ideally I need something fairly light.

Thanks,

Matt  :)

would def recommend a NS for messing about on ramps n that, but tbh not for the london rides (unless you jack the seat right up)
old school all the way for riding any kind of distance, at least you can sit down while you pedal  :daumenhoch:

I wouldn't have fancied doing London to Brighton on my mirraco

Thanks chaps, i'll probably jack the seat right up, I couldn't ride with it all the way down lol.

John, what's the Mirraco like?

John, what's the Mirraco like?

I'm quite taken with it - got it for just over a ton picked up and plenty big enough for me with a 20.8" TT (full cromo too)
Now I'm more used to it has improved my riding a bit, managed to clear the jump box at BR which wasn't happening on the haro before

Only things I didn't like were the bar height (fixed with topload stem from Mr Voivod) and the lack of front brake - got some lugged forks for £12  :daumenhoch:

Keep you eye out on ebay, if you're a jammy **** like peter J you might even find something that's been listed wrong

Will the parts stay on a ns better Matt?

No offence, but you can't ride for toffee bud - most riders our age progress to a ns as their os is holding them back skills-wise so why you want one is not the right reason. Set up an os with new wheels and a few better parts to ride mate and see how you get on. That's what we did bitd and why you're not enjoying your catologue spec rides mate, we used to change everything to get them right.

Stopnwasting your money on stuff you don't need mate and build an os to ride! Nuff said.

Spen take a chill pill, what the feck are you going on about lol.

I want a ns because of the way they look not for riding off walls. I have a 90's sport but just fancy a ns, end of.

Matty, this guy is selling his Subrosa Armada. I know it's $500 but break it down to £'s and it's worth it for the parts on it.

6th bike down.....

As usual i've tried too much sarcasm in my reply.

Basically I don't get why youn want a ns Matt? Great for park riding yes, but is that what you want to do? Surely spend a bit of cash on one of your scruffiest Haros with some smooth rider parts might be a better idea is what I meant.

I will always take the pish out of your crank falling off as that's what we do here mate, we rip into each other all day! It's funnier when you bite as well...... So don't be so touchy mate as you know I love you buddy ;-)

I know mate, we're good  ;)

Its friday, I need a beer, been a stressful day really.

Still fancy a NS though.

I have a few masters as you know but they don't ride that well for long distance, my sport is better but I just fancy something lighter that I can chuck about a bit, if its shit, it'll be in the for sale section soon enough lol.

Matt, I have a S&M LTF (20.75) that's for sale now, frame only.  They're a fcuking cool looking thing, tapered tubes, lots of nice detailing etc. and obviously, Lighter Than Fcuk.

I suspect it's the kind of thing you're after as it has some character about it. Of course you'd have to source components for it, but it's a thing of beauty for sure.

Gingerholmes is also looking to sell some stuff so between us we could put a whole bike together for you.

Don't expect it to be cheap, but it would be good  ;)

Trust me when I tell you, you don't want a low budget newschool bike - you'll be disappointed.
