OS brake squeal ?

(1/2) > >>

steve69:
I took my latest build for a test run today prior to next weeks London ride.

All's well except for horrendous brake squeal, of which i can only describe as 'the cries of a frustrated pig'   >:(

I'm running NOS Araya ano'd rims (not shine sides) with NOS Skyway Pro pads.
Obviously the pads were aligned with maximum contact to the rim, good stopping but really loud. I then pitched them over so i had less contact to the rim, still stopped well but just as loud. Cleaned rim with solvent, no change. Fitted another set of Pro pads, no change. Roughed up the braking surface of the pads with emery cloth to deglaze them, still no change.  :(

Fitted a set of Fibrax pads and the noise is now gone, but the down side (apart from not looking as good) is it doesn't stop as good :tickedoff:

So, the question is....      Has anyone overcome this problem (without having to ride with the noise for an unknown amount of time in the hope they will bed in)  ???

GaryN:
Do your pads/caliper allow you to toe the pads in so that the front/leading edge of the pads hits the braking surface first?

If so then that might help.

steve69:
Yes, i've tried pitching the pads in different directions with no better results  :-\

The odd thing is, i have Skyway Pro pads on most of my builds and there is some brake squeal from time to time but nothing like this.
