Gutted!!! MK plans looking bad right now...

So tonight I drove to pick up the final bits to finish one of my builds ready to head down to MK tomorrow morning... Arrive at my mates and when I get out to open his gate I hear a noise that sounds like popcorn popping under my engine. Turn the car off and noise stops, fire it up again and noise starts back up. Engine is also running really rough all of a sudden  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Really dont feel comfortable driving 4 hours to MK and 4 hours back with the car running so poorly so definitely not going to make it tomorrow. Going to see what plans I can make to get there for sunday but things arent looking good.... Not happy right now!  >:(

Its a B5.5 passat estate. The 2.0 20v non turbo model.
