Something has been scratched into the chrome but not deep, so can this be done without the use of specialized polishing equipment?

rich have you tried the usual suspects , brasso , autosol etc , they will polish without scratching but whether they'll do enough i don't know

Is it really worth all that polishing? Just put another sticker on with your name  ;D
