Sorry another R Robinson, I need help....

I have been given what I believe the answer from the top, so its right !

The earlier bikes were made by different manufacturers so it is more than likely these Pre E expert stamped frames with the earliy serial numbers were made by different engineering workshops with different tooling capabilities. Once they were under contract to be built by one rather large mainstream manufacturer with serial numbers and size demarcations then became consistent  by year and size  like 883124 being an 83  and P or E or M  for size as we know  :daumenhoch:

Who told you that Darren ?   Has he some connection with Robinson ?
