Just say buyer is a multi-millionaire what's 3 grand to them, fook all really in the whole scheme of things, it's all relative to personal circumstances.
Say the buyer had one of these when he was a kid, he sees this, he wants it and he goes large to get it.
People spend huge amounts of money on far dafter things IMO, a lot of art for starters.
Fair play to the buyer.

But you need more than one of them to bid it up that high - both who really want it. Both with more money than sense (as already mentioned by Stidds).
I agree with the 'art' sentiment though. You imagine that art is always going to appreciate, but as with old school BMX, it depends on what people are collecting at any one time
