1990 GT Pro Series XXL
« on: January 28, 2014, 06:04 PM »
I scooped this XXL '90 GT Pro Series on the weekend - just cos I need to build something fast...

The chrome has already been blasted by the seller and was previously white over original chrome. It came with an Epoch headset and a seat post (which sadly is only fit for the bin). So with it being ready for paint I think I'm going to get right into it and add to the mid-school madness at MK14 hopefully...

I must say it looks pretty cool as it is - kinda looks like titanium  :chin:

Serial is on the dropout and seems USA made if I'm correct in understanding various posts - March 1990 XXL

Overall it's in good shape:

At the mo I'm considering my build options and trying to assemble the all the parts - I have a few bits for it already but more are heading my way and others still proving to be evasive - such as early 90's Viscount seat, chain wheel and stem...

I found some decals online already and hopefully they're on their way over to these shores by now.

I would be nice if this was a nice quick project with immediate satisfaction!

cheers Mark - the '90 was ordinary calliper not AD or canti like the 95 I had.

I'll measure the top tube

Nice  8)

Parts for these are out there, but as a lot of the bits were also standard on Robinsons,Dyno's,Powerlite  ???, there's plenty demand.

Good luck, these are great looking frames  :daumenhoch:

These are awesome bikes. One of the few GT race bikes that came in yellow as a standard colour.  :smitten:

I must be honest though, black XXlL's are my favourite.  8)

Looking forward to seeing this one come together.  :daumenhoch:

thanks Jon - that's one of Primal's bikes isn't it?

I like the black too - but it's the one colour that I can't do because of the decals that were available - the down tube decal needs to be chrome in order to paint it black (like the pic above) - I'll see when they arrive - an all black bike could be quite wicked tho!

oooooooooo - thanks for that Jon

Wheels arrived from Mr.Costa yesterday afternoon - I'm glad MyHermes deliver on saturdays arvies. GT sealed bearing race hubs laced to chrome Sun rims:

I unpacked them and had a trial fitting:

Me likey!

And the matching seat clamp:

I also dug out this pair of GT AA Pro fat/thins - I'd hoped they'd come in handy some time - pity I wasn't thinking that way about all the other GT stuff I sold and now have to buy again...ah well - the wheels are happening man!

Looks kinda cool...

Adenough came through for me on the straight post - cheers Rog.

Freshly painted by SBD. I decided I needed a yellow GT Pro in my life and after seeing the ad that Midschooljon posted I was convinced it had to happen.

Feast your eyes on this!

Looking good. That's going to ride as nice as it looks. Potential B.o.t.m there, if you can get some sweets included in the build.

Correct decals now applied with a sealed headset fitted. Had the GT pro stem powdered black.

Even though I'm selling it to fund the completion of a car restoration...it still a great looking steed I must admit.
