Removing Alloy tarnishing

I've got a set of Rock Shox Mag 21 Ti forks that have a gold laquer on them. They also have the same worm type tarnish.

I would say that the hubs would be laquered and if you strip and polish them that will solve the problem.

I was going to do this with my forks. Then BMX happened.
