Gary72:
Ive got a stem with a 8x1.25 thread that has stripped. Was thinking about re-tapping it to the next size. But that looks like M10. Which i think will be too big. Im not very good with imperial sizes, What would the next size up be in imperial?
Anyone ever gone down this road before?

you could get an m8 helicoil kit , it should contain everything you need to repair the thread , used one in the past n the repair was pretty good , got be done right though or the coil will thread out sometimes, not a problem just annoying, superglue or thread lock on the coil sorts it  :daumenhoch:

or the alternative is something i'm about to do , low temp aluminium welding ,i'll do a destroyityourself thread  ;D, got a stem with the same problem ,  just can't find my bloody blow torch at the mo ,

5/16 is the nearest imperial size mate, Id consider 10mm , it shpuldnt be that much of an issue going up, if the cap screws are a bit too big, the heads i mean, you can always cylindrically grind them (angle grinder and use fingers to turn the diameter of head down) to fit into the counterbored holes in the stem cap. Hope you get it sorted mate.
