TwoBobRob:
Gary, is it a handlebar clamp bolt, or a steerer tube clamp bolt?

Also, is it completely stripped out all the way through?

Gary72:
It's a steerer tube bolt, it's not stripped all the way, I did think about getting a longer bolt. But not sure if I'd trust it.

TwoBobRob:
I did exactly that on my cruiser - no problem at all.

Is it a fairly meaty stem? If so, I wouldn't worry too much.

Im not sure i understand Rob, Did you just leave it with 1 bolt?
I think I will drill and tap it to M10, Looked at helicoil kits and it looks like you have to drill the helicoil bigger than 10mm for a m8 bolt.

TwoBobRob:
No mate, I fitted a longer bolt. I did run a tap through it just to clean things up but there wasn't any real need.

I wouldn't use a helicoil myself.

How many unused threads are in that hole compared to how many stripped ones?  If it's similar, just go with the longer bolt - you know how we all over tighten everything, it'll be fine.
