Hiya Gents  :)

Got these lovelies recently from thebigdog and as you can see they need a little tlc.

Im planning on removing the cages to reshape and re-anno and use countersunk allen machine screws to remount them.
Hopefully they should look a little like the KKT LMX's as in the second pic  :daumenhoch:

I know the "rivets" are actually part of the pedal body casting and are just mushroomed over to hold the cage on. The plan is to remove the mushroom but leave the nub to locate the cage on then just secure with an M3 allen machine screw  :daumenhoch:

What would be really usefull is a clear centred shot from above of a tidy pedal so i can make a wooden former to reshape mine. Anyone feeling photographical?  :crazy2:

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Have a look at this thread on Ozbmx for some inspiration for pedal restoration...

Got 5 mins to myself today so decided to remove the cages  :)

I started by centre punching and drilling a 2.5mm hole through the middle of the rivets, deep enough to receive the M3 countersunk allen machine screws. Its important not to drill too deep as there is a chance the hole could come through the narrow section of the body

Next using a 4.5mm bit i drilled through the rivet head leaving a fine ring of the head remaining. The holes in the cages are 5mm  :daumenhoch:

The rings were easily removed with a gentle tap with a flat screwdriver or something similar.

The cages were removed using a small piece of timber to pry and/or tap apart from the body. The nubs were filed flat with enough left on to relocate the cages once restored.

Next job is to reshape, file and polish the cages ready for anno  :)

Another early finish, another chance to do a bit of resto.

Managed to cut a few oak formers and set about gently hammering the makings of the original shape.

offered up to check the hammering isnt stretching the cage.

Next job filing  :daumenhoch:

Nearly there with the cages. Countersunk the rivet holes for the machine screws and restored as much of the teeth shape as was practicle without filing too much of the body away.

When you're done you can make another set by simply running some spindles in the wooden bits  :daumenhoch:

Got 2 items in the post today, a shiney new M3 bottom tap and my cages back from Jay (anodiser chick)
A cracking service that i would happily recommend  :daumenhoch:

Stripped, filed and soft polished the bodies over lunch today as well as clean all the movey bits. With any luck they should be finished tomorrow  :)
