There's a shop in Gravesend, Barnkets, that do nothing but screws/bolts/etc.  Old fashioned sort of place, used them myself on many an occasion, walk in holding up the thing that you want and the bloke goes out back and usually comes back with what you are looking for.

try and get some buttom head bolts - suitable for profle spindles!

The trouble is the thread pitch - known in the nut and bolt industry as Bicycle Pitch  (not too surprisingly).  Find somewhere that carries this and you're good to go  :)
