Repops/NRPs- the good the bad and the ugly!

ooh, that's nasty. If anyone has seen the honey badger video on youtube, you will have no doubt had that 'it's nasty' phrase stuck in your head at some point

There's some very hypocritical comments in this thread already.
In one breath you say, "as long as you can easily tell the difference so no one gets ripped off". Then in the next, comes the comment of " how could Dia-Compe get it so wrong" ?!?!? Short answer... Because they done what people wanted.

I also don't buy into the... "I couldn't finish the build without them" line (with the exception of decals)
BITD, if you wanted a 3pc crank and couldn't afford the Redline 401's you dream of, you bought Suntour VX's or whatever. You didn't sulk and say "I can't come out to play coz my bike doesn't have the cranks I wanted".

I get the whole build spec scenario but even then, if you are going to the trouble of sourcing all the correct parts, repop isn't gonna cut the mustard either.

I personally believe it has diluted the hobby for nothing more than monetary gain. Which sadly is aimed at fleecing our generation.

(this is my opinion and not aimed at any individual)

P.S.

Love the way I'm the "hater", I can't be the only one  :LolLolLolLol:

I'm not really a grumpy Cnut, I'm just passionate about our hobby  :daumenhoch:

I'm all for original wherever possible, but am happy to include repop parts sometimes. I couldn't accurately say exactly the reasons for why I like certain parts to be real, and am happy to buy/use others that are repop. I can't make sense of it myself sometimes. Cost definitely plays a part, but not massively. It's more about availability for me. If I could find 2 more NOS/mint pairs of original Hutch beartraps for the price of repops, then i'd gladly use them. As I ride all my bikes, I don't really want to scuff or wreck a NOS set of pedals that could be hard and expensive to replace.  MInd you, I fitted a NOS pair of tyres to my Changa and that gets ridden so try and work that one out. See - I told you I struggle to make sense of it all!

And no - you're not a grumpy cnut  :daumenhoch:
You have a passion for something for reasons that are personal to you. You like what you like and make your own rules to please yourself. That's the right way to do things because it's right for you

Gnarlyscoots:
Personally, if it doesn't come from the era that we came from, then it's not Bmx. I agree that decals are a must as they are few and far between, but parts, everything from frame sets to washers, are out there.

I do wish that a lot hoarders would actually release a lot of the items into the market though. I have a very small number of parts that I keep hold of, but I know of many who will just hoard loads of items for the sake of 'protecting history', etc.

A shame really.
