Pound shop bike stand challenge
« on: August 04, 2016, 08:32 PM »
With MK round the corner my thoughts turned to bike stands today.

Too tight to spend the £20 a pop on the usual fodder and wanted to avoid the farcical shite that was last year's wooden efforts I googled bike stands to check out the conventional methods of standing a bike up.

Any ideas I had involved welding and/or alot of fabrication not to mention the fact that most solutions wouldn't really save much on £20.
Then it hit me! The pound shop!!!

What could I find there that could be misappropriated into some sort of stand?  ???

Challenge accepted, I set off with an open mind clutching a shiny nugget  :D

My first thoughts were some sort of plastic tub I could up-end and cut a tyre sized slot in but wandering down the tool isle I spotted these

Some sort of frame/bottom bracket hook sprung to mind and my search was over.
Back at base I stripped off the handle and roller head and an idea appeared  based on the cranked section for roller head.
10 minutes in the vise yealded this

Got home and tried it. Bingo worked like a charm  :LolLolLolLol:

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Mk2 was knocked out today. Much simpler and quicker to make   :)

found a bit of recycled car bumper sheet a rep gave me and with a few minutes on the drill, job was a goodun

didn't even have to reshape the roller shaft. Just pulled the handle and roller off and stuck it in the plastic plate

Just remembered I've got a bit of clear recycled plastic with shredded 50's from the royal mint embedded in it.
Don't think I have any builds blingy enough to use it though  :D

It might do on really soft grounds. I did think about some sort of stop flange on them but don't really have time and as luck would have it, the crank in the arm for the roller head is just the right height to act as a stop  :D

Just clamp a mole grip at ground level to stop it from sinking any further.
